Q: "Suggested Apps" interfering with handoff?

Had been having intermittent trouble with getting handoff/continuity to work for mail between my iphone on ios8 and my mac on yosemite 10.10.3.

Have only upgraded in last 2w, from 10.8 Mountain Lion

I remember handoff was more likely to work from mac to iphone than vice versa, but it was still patchy.

Today I was trying to go from phone to mac and could not for the life of me get the icon to show up on my dock.

Tried going in reverse with a test message. Could not get the mail icon to appear on my phone's lock screen.

In all cases, I was making sure to leave the mail app open/at the top/active window on the "donor" device.

I found the help page: Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite

Ran through all those steps, even the sign out of iCloud and sign back in on my mac (it's fine to select 'delete data', but FMI see my discussion here).

Still nothing.

I noticed that the little icon on my phone's lock screen in the bottom left, which should be showing a "mail" icon when handoff is working, was instead a Starbucks logo.

I tried turning off location services in the Starbucks app and in Passport. No dice.

Finally, I took the seemingly rather drastic step of (on my iPhone) turning off "suggested apps" under Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps. I turned off both My apps and App store.

Handoff worked bidirectionally as soon as I did this.

So, is the problem the Starbucks app itself (don't want to delete the App since I do use it for payment on occasion)?

If not, is there any way to turn off suggested apps for individual apps while preserving the function for others?

Is there any way to tell the iPhone to always prioritize handoff over suggested apps?

Or perhaps just add a spot for separate lock-screen icons for the handoff and suggested apps functions?

I apologize if this is the wrong community. Mods, please move to appropriate one if so.

Thanks!

Since I can only select 1 product:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

iCloud drive not enabled after signing back in. Can't remember if it was enabled before

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3
