Q: Playlists and music are not syncing (can't add any music to my iPhone now)

I've been having a lot of trouble with Apple Music! I have a pretty large iTunes library (25k) and have been using iTunes Match. At first things seemed okay on my iPhone 6. I added a couple of albums and it was good.

Then I got iTunes 12.2 and the music I added from Apple Music showed up greyed out. Nothing I did seemed to make those songs want to become available. I saw someone posted to delete the songs from the iPhone library and then add them using your Mac and then it would show up on both. No dice. I toggled Music on and off and had it re-download my music library to my iPhone. I still can't see the albums I added on my Mac (and which are clearly in my Mac library).

Now I can't add anything to my iPhone library. When I browse for an album not on my iPhone and click the "Add to My Music" button, it says okay, does the check mark thing, and then a few seconds later the icon switches back from a checkmark to a plus sign.

Basically I can't add music to my iPhone at all because I can't sync it to my computer (since now it syncs only through Apple Music), it isn't syncing changes from my Mac to my iPhone, and I can't add anything from Apple Music to my iPhone. Help!

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4

yes but turning on iCloud music library might change your album artworks and replace songs to match the ones in apple servers for example your live versions would be gone.

Yes.. That happened for some of my songs...

But its better than not able to add the music through iTunes..

Someone else has also added some response to this problems.. I have not checked it yet but it might be helpful.

It's a mess basically. I first noticed a problem when I was out and about. I noticed random tracks were missing or greyed out from Albums which are synced from my iTunes on my Windows PC. In order to get them back I have to 'Un-enable' iCloud Music Library in Settings. Once I have done that, Re-sync, my tracks re-appear? Now here lies in the problem. All the music I added from Apples new music service has disappeared!!? In order to get that music back or have the ability to add new music I have to 'Re-Enable' iCloud Music Library which then removes and greys out random tracks added from iTunes again. I could live with this no problem but I have added a lot Self Help Audio Tracks from iTunes to my phone which are not available from the new Music service.

So this needs to be fixed? Or we now have a situation on our hands to which certain file types and mp3 can't be synced unless they are converted properly? I make this assumption based on random stuff isn't syncing? How does it decide. Kinda reminds me of why I moved away from Sony stuff because I was sick of converting.

You can only add music through iTunes if the iCloud library is off.

    What was the solution?

There isnt one. Like I said. I can either have 'ALL' my added iTunes music and no Apple Music or I can have 'ALL' Apple Music and some random missing audio from iTunes.

I think the problem is that Apple wont allow certain file types to be synced to iCloud. So some of my Self Help Mp3's are not compatible anymore hence random audio disappearing. They have removed 'Physical hard file transfers over iCloud transfers and have lost some compatibilty in the process. It's only one or the other which seems a bit daft to me.

The only solution I can think of right now is to try and convert the whole hard copy albums/tracks I have into an Apple compatible format (Apple Lossless?). But personally - I think it is a massive pain the @ss.

Another thing I have noticed is I have some weird albums showing up on my iPhone that were added to iCloud at some point to which I now cannot find and delete as they don't show up in my iTunes? Which are greyed out by the way. What do I do about that?

I tried 'Right Clicking' the problem tracks and choosing convert to Apple lossless but that doesnt change anything. In fact, since I did that and deleted the originals everything is greyed out totally now and some tracks are still randomly missing. The tracks in iTunes have the iCloud logo dotted which means 'Waiting' - The never seem to go into iCloud. They are perpetually 'Waiting' hence show has greyed out on the iPhone in Music.

mmm, Just been doing a bit more digging here. A solution would be to sign up to iTunes Match for 24.99eur per year.... Hah hah. Is this now being enforced by way of signing up to Apple Music. Very very cleaver Apple. This is very Clever. You really are Evil Corps aren't you.

My phone finally decided to observe the fact that I had "Show purchases" on my iPhone turned off. However, not only have the purchases disappeared, but so has nearly all my album art! (on my phone -- still intact in iTunes on my Mac) Any easy way to get it back?

    Thank you Thorte!

Are you listening Apple? With music you are becoming the guy on the screen in the "1984" commercial! I want to decide what I listen to on my iPhone! I want to decide what song I am listening to! Please stop making it harder and harder to do it. I am the best DJ for me, and I want to be able to do my job without reading an instruction manual every few months.

Strange fix for me to add the playlists was clicking the Heart button on the playlist next to edit playlist in iTunes and within ten odd seconds the playlist appears on my iPhone -strange but true

One massive Caveat, it only works with songs available in the cloud those songs that are 'waiting' to be added won't appear.....

PS I personally also then click the three ... buttons on my iPhone for each playlist and click the make available offline just in case

Thank you, I think it worked. When I first downloaded Apple Music I suddenly was left with no space on my phone. I had to reset my phone and was left with no music but this has got my music back. Thanks again.
