Q: Google redirecting to Facebook.

Every time I go to google from my ipad or iPhone - I'm redirected to Facebook. Could this be a virus or hacker? I've also noticed I get error messages (google cannot confirm the identity of the server) when my phone tries to connect to the google server for my gmail. What should I do? I've cleared browser history and cache. I've also completely powered down and back up again.  That only temporarily solved the problem.

Please help.

Thanks

Thomas, thank you. In addition to blocking Facebook.com on the router, I have changed my DNS server on my devices to Google DNS. On the iPads and iPhones, I went to Settings, WiFi, selected my network name, and replaced the contents of the DNS field to "8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4". As an aside, my browser actually seems significantly faster now. I will be sure to follow up to this post if the problem resurfaces.

I just wanted to follow up to confirm that this did in fact fix the problem for me.

Thank You Everyone!  As a born again Mac user, I did not know where to go to solve this exact problem that has been happening to me for a while.  Especially when I can't search google for an answer.  Grrr!  I can't stand Bing or Yahoo search engines.  I didn't know how to resolve this until I started searching for answers from my work machine.  You guys really helped me out.  I should've come here first.

I'll try what was proposed and see if it fixes the issue.

Velve, it sounds like you too have DNS poisoning. I would suggest that you change your DNS addresses per above on your router and on your devices to Google DNS or Norton DNS. You should also stop visiting Fox News, which may be poisoning your mind, if not your DNS. Good luck!

I think it maybe a little more than just poision(not foxnews, well have to agree to disagree--fan of gutfeild ) I live in BFE and we get net from a coop in another state. I am too poor to have my own net and am using others. When I posted I was helping out at the local librairy/ comunity building. I am now at a friends house (both on the same provider) and its still doing it.

This also has happened to me just 30 min ago in Safari browser of my Mackbook Air, while my google chrome browser is not affected and opens google page correctly.

Anyway, it's fixed now. I'm not sure if all the below steps are necessary, but just give them a try:

    1. change search engine to bing or any other search site

    2. remove history of the browser

    3. After memorising the original DNS, change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 Check the link for how to perform in PC or Mac https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

    4. type google.com on the browser to check if will open the page or redirect.

    5. if it doesn't redirect anymore, change the DNS to the original

But again, my case wasn't too severe. I hope it works with you all. Let me know please
