Q: My recent calls appearing on another iPhone!?

Hi,

Hopefully you can help.

I use my phone for business and we have noticed in the last few days that all of the calls I make and receive are appearing in my wife's iPhone recent call history?

I have hunted high and low in settings on both phones but with no joy.

It is only affecting calls i make, not the other way round? so i am not seeing calls my wife makes on her phone in my recent call history?

It is also not affecting text messages...

We are both using the same iCloud account but the inconsistencies above suggest its something more involved (or very simple!)

The slightly odd thing is that it only seems to do it when my phone is at home, i went out this afternoon and the calls made/received have not appeared on her history. so maybe its a wifi thing?...but...

I also phoned vodafone when i got home to see if they could help (they couldn't!) and that short dial number is also not appearing on her history?

That may be conceived as a feature, but a poorly thought one if it cannot be turned off. Again, it may be useful for some users, but I do not want to mix the call lists of my personal and work phones... There is a reason I keep separate phones.

Actually it is broken for many people who never wanted the feature to be added in iOS 8. It was not there previously, hence the many complaints.

Not allowing users to choose whether or not they want to use this "feature" is appalling, especially as Family Sharing is anything but and requires laborious setups including the adding of credit cards and still won't guarantee that you can actually share your apps as this requires the buy-in of the developers many of whom don't as it will increase their revenue.

All told, it is definitely broke for users who were quite happy before this "feature" was added.

Sadly there is no fix, unless apple puts in a switch to allow us to turn it off and considering the appalling decisions apple has made with it's own Mac apps (as seen by their extremely low users ratings) and the increased bugginess of iOS and OSX in general, I wouldn't put up much hope.

    Steve Jobs we miss you!

That's one of the most ridiculous statements I've seen here. There is a reason you keep separate phones, yet you refuse to use separate iCloud IDs. Seriously?

It's not broken. You are. Your opinion of how well or poorly thought out it is is irrelevant.

There is a fix. You've been told what it is multiple times. You choose to ignore it. Go ahead. Beat your head against a wall. We don't care.

KIlted Tim what is your problem? Being aggressive and arrogant about something you obviously no nothing about. You are saying that shared calls lists, occurring at random between devices using the same AppleID is not a bug? The pure randomness and chaos about it screams "bug!"

I am the same person on my devices, so it certainly makes sense to keep the same Apple ID. But I can be  the same person, and still keep separate call lists. It is not for you to decide that it is ridiculous that I want to keep my business and my personal call lists separate... and it never hurts to remain polite and civil.

    Have a nice day.

darenH123, the problem with that "solution" is that it requires turning off Handoff entirely, which I do not want to do as I do use handoff otherwise. The only proper solution, if it must remain, is a clear switch so one can chose to have it work (but then it probably should work both ways reliably which is not the case today) or not (as most of us here would prefer).

Oh yes seriously. Let's see now, did I have this problem on any iOS prior to 8? Answer: NO. Do I have the problem now: YES! Then it's broken. Of course we could create a proverb here that might help the argument:

"One man's feature is another man's problem"

Why in a family would you want to keep accounts separately? Let me guess in your household every family member has their food in separate places, does it's own shopping and pays for all their food separately using their own credit/debit cards? I can understand the separation for business and keeping it separate from Personal. But not in a family. Since the invention of the iPhone families have been happily sharing their accounts for a multitude of reasons. Apple's Family sharing is way off beam and does not appropriately fill that need. Until now apple have been very happy with people sharing IDs. Only that sharing process that has been working perfectly well for millions of users for 8 years broke with the introduction of iOS 8, hence folks are looking for a fix.

all you guys repeating that same BS answer about using separate IDs should be banned.

This forum's moderation is pure crap.  I can see why people have told me for years there is no path to help here.

As much as I've been enjoying this thread (popcorn tastes good), I have to jump in and say the solution to the problem has already been provided. One is like darenH123 mentioned, try turning off the Handoff and Continuity feature. The other is to use a separate Apple ID. And as someone who has a wife and three children under the age of 8, who ALL have their own accounts, I'm absolutely baffled by the people who say that it's impractical to have separate Apple accounts for everyone in the family. Those who keep saying that Apple intended or doesn't mind people sharing Apple IDs are ignoring what Apple says clearly in its own support page:

Can I share my Apple ID with someone else?

You shouldn't share your Apple ID with anyone else.

Frequently asked questions about Apple ID - Apple Support

Since this is Apple's official stance, those who expect them to design the system to accommodate multiple users on the same Apple ID are truly banging their head against the wall.

Oh I wasn't saying the issue has been resolved, I was just stating how I got mine to quit having my call logs on my wife's phone. No, the problem is still there as out of the box you shouldn't have to make any changes if you share an account for call logs to be on other devices. I think Apple needs to step up and OWN this problem and fix it. People need to call in as each and everytime I do they say it's the first time they have heard of it.....

Just do it your way, ignore the correct way. Then live with the result.
