Then I guess the next question would be, then why not? There is a need also for a family sharing storage plan.

It would be a mess, also most families don't want to share their documents. The only reason anyone would want to share iCloud space is to avoid paying properly for what they use by getting a large user discount when they aren't large users.

That is not the only reason, there are some husband and wife only families that don't mind sharing and need more than 5gb but less than 50, which is the next size to up grade.

Nope, there are plenty of ways to share documents if thats the purpose of wanting to share iCloud space, sorry the only reason to share cloud space is to get bulk discounts that you otherwise wouldn't be entitled to.

I can think of several legitimize reasons why a family might want to do this. In my case for example my family has the following products Mac book Pro 15" a white mac-book a silver uni body and another i rarely touch, Not to mention phones as they are used individually any way. We all use each of the laptops for various tasks not the least of which is video editing and Amateur photography. I personaly would not need it for doc or image sharing as there are great tools already in existance for this. our need is redundant backup

We back up all our items to a time capsule of course but what if it fails or knock on wood we have a fire all the stuff we have Blogs, Development programs, pictures videos of all our making over the last 10 yeas would be lost forever. what we need and what most need is a safe place to have a current image of all my computers so we can recover our things . (and believe you me they are mine as i have bought them all from apple and did not make some frankin mac in my garage to cheat apple they got there money I assure you and then some)

I think it should be possible to use our cloud storage for multiple computers not for file access if we are on the road but as back up

Well that is a different topic altogether. iCloud stores iOS device backups, and houses the iCloud Photos Library and Apple Music Library. As you have indicated, you use the backup method that is provided for Apple Macs - Time Machine.

If you would like to share your request with Apple, you can do so here: Apple - Feedback

    Cheers,

There's really no point in asking that here. We are just users like yourself and Apple doesn't share its reasoning with us: also we are not allowed to speculate on Apple policy here. You can make your point to Apple using the Feedback link Gail gave you above.

Exactly, both my wife and I have just enough storage on our Icloud accounts but it won't let us sync to cloud because we are below a number apple set.  We can't see having to buy 2 more storage space accounts just because "combined" we need less than 500k.  At the very least give us away to stop that annoying  POPUP that can't be closed without going to settings every time.

It's almost like Apple took the average amount of storage people would need and set their cut off limit and set it 5%-10% maybe 20% below that number to force all of us to need and buy more storage.
