Q: Samsung 4K U32D970Q & MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2012) Flicker & Sound Issues

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I just got this monitor and its great, but when I use HDMI from my MBP in conjunction with Photoshop or Premiere, it flickers for 5 seconds, comes back on, displays the proper display port in the upper left corner (HDMI in this case), stays on for about 15-20 seconds, then does the same thing over and over and over.  So rather than being at full 4K, I'm forced to use the DisplayPort, which is only allowing me to go to 2560x1440.

Also, how does one get the onboard speakers to work?  Neither the HDMI nor the DisplayPort are sending audio (despite checking and re-checking system settings) to the monitor.  The laptop says it is, but I hear nothing (Volume on the monitor is at 75)

I also noticed when USB hard drives are plugged into the monitor and the display on the MBP goes to sleep, the hard drives continuously spin up, click for a little bit (NEVER a good sound), then spin down.  This concerns me greatly so I now have to keep my MBP on and never allow it to sleep.

Thoughts about any of this?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), (Mid 2012)
