Jul 3, 2015 8:25 AM in response to mikenaullsby StrayKatt,This happened to me when I enabled iCloud Music Library. If you have that enabled under Music Settings, try turning it off. Once I did that my album artwork went back to normal. I am still missing a lot, but it seems to be coming back a little at a time. I don't really understand it.

Jul 3, 2015 8:35 AM in response to Roberto Avanziby JimmyJimmyYam,Roberto's solution worked for me, though it took me a few mins to figure out what exactly I had to do at step 3, so thought I'd clarify:
3) launch iTunes 12.2, click on "My Music" (top centre), then the down-arrow selector at the top right of the window (may say Songs / Albums / Artists / Genres / Composers depending upon how you set it previously) - choose "Songs" - tick both "Show Artwork" and "Always show" in the dialog box (guess this forces iTunes to realise it has artwork for your songs).
I should add that I did not follow step 1 (Disable Apple Music) and it still worked for me - but I do have iCloud Music Library switched OFF. Also, I undid step 3 afterwards (cos who wants to see artwork in a list of thousands of songs?!?) and synced again, this caused the artwork to vanish on the iPhone, but syncing one more time brought it back - go figure...
Thanks Roberto!

Jul 3, 2015 9:53 AM in response to JimmyJimmyYamby StrayKatt,I like to see my album artwork so I have always had those boxes checked. There are certain albums that are still refusing to show the artwork. I have tried taking them off and putting them back on, but no luck. I'm not sure what else to do.

Jul 3, 2015 9:56 AM in response to mogzillaby mikenaulls,I fear we'll have to wait for iOS 8.4.1 or 9 to get a fix for this. Hopefully either of those will fix it. If not I will be quite upset.

Jul 3, 2015 3:24 PM in response to JimmyJimmyYamby mikenaulls,Just went into iTunes to follow these directions but found I already had those boxes checked off. Weirdest thing though: When I plugged my iPhone into my Mac, the phone started syncing as usual but it actually restored my artwork! Oh happy day!

Jul 7, 2015 11:39 AM in response to mogzillaby schinway,I got lucky and did not have to delete my entire music folder on my iPhone 6 but simple syncing did not resolve this. What I did do was just delete 1 playlist and then re-add it and that forced the full sync including adding all missing artwork that had been deleted from my phone with the 8.4 upgrade.

Jul 10, 2015 12:29 PM in response to Roberto Avanziby tangoloco,I'm having exactly the same problem. However, the solution you suggested did not work. Guess I'll just have to wait until Apple finally gets their act together and issues an upgrade to the upgrade.

Jul 10, 2015 9:10 PM in response to StrayKattby FallsGuy,Like you I am meticulous about tags and album art. I can't imagine how much time I've spent getting album art from Amazon and other sources to add to my songs. I'm so frustrated right now that it's mostly all gone. Will it ever come back? I doubt it. Apple really ****** up this time and I'm ******.
I've recently discovered Spotify which I'm getting to know. I like what I see so far!

Jul 11, 2015 10:11 AM in response to mogzillaby assault_is_eternal,The TL:DR version - the problem may go beyond artwork not syncing; all music syncing may be screwed up.
I have the "missing artwork" problem. I have three devices, and learned that the problem occurs when you sync with iTunes. My iPad was the only device that still had artwork - and I rarely sync it to iTunes. So I plugged it in and did a sync - bam! Artwork gone.
I tried a bunch of fixes on my Mac; permission fixing, disk repair, etc. I even moved my entire library from my external hard drive back onto my internal drive; no dice.
I also noticed that I could no longer retrieve artwork in iTunes in certain cases; bought Veruca Salt's new CD "Ghost Notes" and got an error when trying to retrieve the artwork after ripping it. As a test, I have a Mac Mini that I don't use iTunes on (but had done the 12.2 update on). I copied my entire music library to the mini and then did an artwork retrieval; I got a lot of artwork, but not for "Ghost Notes". I checked around and saw several other cases were I couldn't get artwork, even though the album was available on iTunes, and I had been able to get it in the past.
Even worse, I tried to sync "Ghost Notes" to all three of my devices; it wouldn't go (the songs never transferred, and "waiting for changes" took forever). Eventually I wiped my music library on my test device (this time, an iPhone 4s) by disabling sync. For some reason, my purchased music stayed on the device (all of which had their artwork), so I deleted them manually from the phone. I then copied over seven Veruca Salt albums; with the exception of "Ghost Notes" they all have their artwork.
Funny thing; I can still sync TV shows and apps, no problem.

Jul 11, 2015 7:38 PM in response to assault_is_eternalby assault_is_eternal,Wiped my iPhone. Set it up as a new device, copied over apps fresh (no restore). Copied over a few TV shows, no problem. Started the music; I decided to do it a little at a time - first I did 50 songs - they transferred over, and the artwork was there. Worked my way up to 4000 songs at a time. Things were going great, stuff was transferring over fairly fast (I encode my music as Apple Lossless, then down convert to 128kbps)
Once I hit 148,000 songs the "applying changes" notification started to crawl. None of the music transferred over. When I look at the music "On my device" in iTunes, all the songs that I tried to transfer are greyed out.
I seem to recall an issue with large iTunes libraries and the iPhone 6+, maybe this is it again.

Jul 12, 2015 7:33 AM in response to mogzillaby WingChroniam,I downgraded from the first week since they allowed it, but something bug happened after a few days that forced me to restore back on 8.4. During the process of resyncing everything my Artwork showed up again somehow ON 8.4 O_o
So mine happened oddly, but I am happy. I do think that one of the comments here to remove all your songs and resync everything will help though.
