Q: No mic audio on iPhone calls from my Mac

I am having trouble with microphone audio when I send or receive cellular calls on my iPhone 6 from my Mac Pro over WiFi. I can hear the remote end's audio, but they cannot hear me, and my mic audio does not appear on the bar graph display during the call. Here is my setup:

  • Late 2013 Mac Pro running Yosemite 10.10.3
  • Audio interface is a Scarlett 2i2
  • iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3

The audio interface works fine with all other applications. My input source is set to it in System Settings->Sound, and the Input Level bar graph shows proper mic audio level.

In FaceTime, under the Video menu, I have the correct microphone input selected. My audio works normally in FaceTime audio calls. Only sending or receiving cellular calls on my Mac over WiFi exhibits the audio problem. I have previously sent and received cellular calls on this system, but around a month or so ago the mic audio problem appeared. Up until the mic audio problem appeared, this worked well, with great audio quality.

I've tried many things based on suggestions found online, but they didn't help. Here's a summary:

  • Correct mic input is selected in System Settings->Sound, and audio level is set correctly.
  • Correct mic input is selected in Facetime under Video menu.
  • Facetime calls work normally; only iPhone calls over WiFi from my Mac are affected.
  • I tried deleting the .plist files under /Library/Preferences/Audio and then rebooting and reconfiguring my sound setup.
  • In the Audio MIDI Setup app, I have the same sample rate and audio format selected for the Built-In Output and the Scarlett 2i2: 44100.0 Hz, 2ch-24bit Integer
  • I have tried swapping the microphone to the other mic input on the Scarlett 2i2.
  • Audio works normally in other applications.
  • Mute button is not selected, and toggling it does not help.
  • When I'm in a WiFi call with no mic audio, I can switch over to the iPhone to continue the call normally (if the other end hasn't already hung up in confusion, that is).

Help, please!
