Q: this item not eligible for icloud music library

An entire playlit wont sync to my phone and every time I try, this pop ups: "iCloud Music Library playlists can only include music from your iCloud Music Library. This playlist can’t be uploaded because it includes other media kinds or songs that are not eligible." It was working fine before. What should I do?

I have exactly the same problem. Even when creating a playlist with only music I got from Apple Music, I can't sync it to my phone. Very frustrating, and I hope it will be fixed soon, if there's no way around it right now. HELP!

I also have the same problem.  I found there are tracks in the playlist that are "ineligible", which is preventing the upload of the entire playlist.  I selected the playlist, and in the "My Music" section, I sorted all my tracks by "iCloud download" and found a few with a slash thru a cloud icon.  Unfortunately I was not able to ascertain WHY those tracks are ineligible - I tried right clicking on the track and selecting "add to iCloud music" but after a short delay, ineligible status returned.  I would like to know why certain tracks are ineligible and let's get that fixed.

As a work around, I simply created a duplicate playlist and named it "_____ iCloud", then deleted the ineligible tracks, and it uploaded to the iCloud library fine.  So, some of my tracks aren't there, which is disappointing, but at least most of them are.  This works as a temporary "fix" until Apple can figure out how to upload ineligible tracks!,

    Hello,

I found a solution for this problem which was also bugging me with a lot of my favourite songs.

It seems that iCloud Music Library does not support songs with a bit rate of 96kbps or less (see here: iTunes Match: Understanding the iCloud Status icons - Apple Support).

What I did was as simple as this: just right click on the song that is not available for iCloud Music Library and look for an option that says "Create AAC version..." click on that option and once you do it, iTunes will create an AAC version that has a bitrate of 128kbps thus the song will be eligible for uploading into iCloud. Then you just have to delete the older version, this is just a workaround until Apple fixes it. I hope this works for you guys.

If you have any questions let me know.

The weird part is that if I create the exact same playlist on the phone, it syncs and updates on the Mac immediately.

Thanks for the idea.  Unfortunately I don't have the option to create a new version for music I purchased.  But I was able to fix the problem another way, by following the steps at iTunes Match Ineligible Tracks

Thanks a lot!!! Apple should clearly mention that files with less than 128kbps are not supported! In my case it doesn't show which files are not eligible. It just said cannot upload playlist on Icloud Library.

the easy way to fix it is going old school. you need to deactivate "iCloud music library" on your iTunes and your iPhone, and violà you got all your library back the way it was before!

1). on your iPhone Go to Settings > Music, and turn off iCloud Music Library

2). on your Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Preferences and turn off iCloud Music Library.

i don't know how is it on windows but i guess it would be similar to the mac

    hope it helps.

I had the same problem and followed your instructions. Thanks.

But now, I cannot listen to that song on my phone. It says: ''Item Not Available. This item can't be played."

    Thanks to help me out.

    Marc.

THANK YOU! This trick (per FJ.Andrade) to convert MP3s to AACs worked.  All good.

Its just amazing that apple does´t just let you drag and drop songs to your phone, and you HAVE to add them through the iCloud music library. its just another control freak move from Apple. I have a song that won't upload and i already tried changing into AAC that didn't work. This what i hate about apple their need for control. Its probably a way to avoid pirated music, i'm sure. but im a kid from the past i had napster. let me live.

    I hate apple now.

Yeah this is ridiculous. I have a legally downloaded track from an artist's Soundcloud page that is 'not eligible for the iCloud Music Library'.

The track has a bitrate of 320 kbps and I tried converting to AAC through iTunes with no luck (went down to 256 kbps after the conversion).

The only thing I can think of is that the track is too long.. It's a 2:34:53 track but if I'm paying for iTunes match, there shouldn't be a max length.. That would just be silly, right?

    Things were better with Steve..

It is probably because the file is too large. There is a 200 mb limit.
