Q: Help please out of my depth now! Bootcamp Problems
Hello,
Please help, I've been trying unsuccessfully to partition my partners iMac and install windows. I've done this before on my machine and had no problems. Initially when running boot camp I kept getting the message that the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored. I've checked countless forums and done what many have suggested but with no luck. On a bit of a whim I went ahead and followed advice from one of the answers on this site and it advised to go to terminal and type in the following - diskutil cs covert disk0s2
which I did and then this is what it said
Last login: Sat Jul 11 17:02:09 on ttys000
Nigels-iMac:~ nigelquaini$ diskutil cs convert disk0s2
Started CoreStorage operation on disk0s2 Macintosh HD
Resizing disk to fit Core Storage headers
Creating Core Storage Logical Volume Group
Attempting to unmount disk0s2
Switching disk0s2 to Core Storage
Couldn't unmount disk0s2; converted volume won't appear until it's unmounted
Core Storage LVG UUID: 8E8C8D35-0F2F-44DD-86EE-96DA41D5E061
Core Storage PV UUID: 52B1019F-C879-4DB4-BB75-7FD390B52E1E
Core Storage LV UUID: 7AFCB78D-9F34-48EB-AA03-5BBA64B3BBBC
Finished CoreStorage operation on disk0s2 Macintosh HD
Nigels-iMac:~ nigelquaini$
Now when I go to disk utility the Macintosh HD is in red and the volume below is greyed out, I'm worried about what I have done. Please help!!!!
Thanks.

Converting the disk to a CoreStorage volume will not address your BCA partitioning issues. You should progress with the following steps in order.
Please post the output of diskutil cs list and it can be reverted.
1. Run Disk Utility Repair and try BCA. Please see Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks - Apple Support .
2. Run SMC Reset and NVRAM Reset and try BCA again.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
3. Boot in Safe Mode - Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support and boot normally and try BCA.
4. Run FSCK manually - Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support and try BCA.
5. If none of the above steps work, then
a. Back up OSX using Time Machine - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
b. Boot into Internet Recovery - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support.
c. Erase your internal drive and restore from the TM backup in Step 1 - OS X Yosemite: Recover your entire system.
Please be aware that TM does not backup Bootcamp partitions. Retry BCA.
