Q: why new user accounts can access home folder of admin users?

I have created a user account on my macbook. It is a standard account.

Now when I logged in using this account. It can access home folder of other users. I am not sure how to restrict this and why it is not restricted by default.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

By default users can read some limited parts of others' home folders, e.g. The Public and Shared folders. The other folders, such as Documents should not be readable. If they are, you have messed up permissions. These are not repaired by Disk Utility, you need to startup in recovery mode (Command + Option + R) - Utilities - Terminal - type "resetpassword" - chose the account(s) - select "Reset Home Folder permissions and ACLs.
