Q: When I migrated from iPhoto to Photo all my photos now contain location information. Most of is absolutely wrong. How do I change it. Also does Apple mine this information for their marketing programs?

When I migrated from iPhoto to Photo all my albums now contain location information in the title. 99% of it iis absolutely wrong. How do I change the album name to not include location information. I have over 10,000 photos and hundreds of albums that are mislabeled. HELP.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), null

Sorry you need to express much less paranoia and give correct details

Moving from iPHoto to Photos does not add location information to titles - or for that matter to anything - Photos has the ability to display location information but no to generate or modify it which is a current major short coming of Photos - it will be changed with El captain this fall - http://www.apple.com/osx/elcapitan-preview/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-mac-com

And albums names are totally generated by you so if they include location information it is because you typed it in

And as to wrong information, again Photos has no ability to touch location information so anything you see re locations is from your camera, your phone or work you did in iPhoto

As to data mining, if apple wants to know where I take pictures it is no skin off my butt - I have no idea nor do I personally care - if you are interested then you need to ask Apple - none of the users here have any idea (we do know that Google does do data mining on any thing you let them have access to including using any of their software including Google Maps and Chrome   and the GPS data form your. Google (Android) phone if you use one - many of use will not use Google stuff because of that)

    Geez LarryHN

Thanks for the super helpful tip about paranoia. I didn't realize that you would be commenting otherwise I would have upped my meds.

You are absolutely incorrect about me naming these albums. They were unnamed. Now, nearly all of them are titled Shasta Trinity National Forest - Forks of Salmon, then followed by a date. The date is correct but where the Shasta info came from is a complete mystery. All of my early photos were scanned so they don't contain metadata location information, but Photos whipped up a title for them anyways.

How do people trust what you have to say when you place so much blame on the victim of apple's crappy programming choices.

I actually need help here not an pathetic apple cheerleader. Your attitude and technical prowess hasn't resolved my problem. I'll probably just dump Photos and use Lightroom, which, though overkill for personal pics, never saddles me with a concocted name.

    THANKS FOR NOTHING.
