Q: Have facebook.news-cm.info come up in Safari saying I have won a prize and cant get rid of it. Any ideas?

A popup box supposedly from facebook.news-cm.info has appeared saying I have won a prixe and click on OK to claim.

Its obviously a hoax but everything else in Safari is locked and I can't get rid of it.

Tried deleting facebook, powercycling the ipad and switching wifi off/on.

Anybody got any ideas on how to remove (and what is behind it)?

    Hi Neil,

    Thanks for the swift response.

Fraudulent Website Warning was switched on in Safari settings (which I admit I hadnt tried) but I then cleared all History and website data which appears to have cleared the problem.

So your prompt pointed me to the right area. Many thanks again for that.

Will be interesting to see if anyone else comes up with an explanation of what or who is behind the popup.

    Cheers

    Peter

    Hi Niel

I have the same problem as proracle with this popup window from news-cm.info freezing Safari - but on my Mac.  The instructions you provided were for Safari on iOS - do you know if there's a solution for Safari on Mac OS?  I've had to switch to Chrome.

    Rob

    The popup window message says:

      From “facebook.news-cm.info”:

Congratulations, you are today's lucky Telstra Internet user!

      You have (1) unclaimed prize

Click OK to claim your prize now

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If the message reappears, disconnect the computer from the Internet for long enough to erase that site from the browser history.
