Q: Java SE 6 on Yosemite?

I just updated my mac to Yosemite and the following message keeps popping up "To open 'this Java application' you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." No matter if I click "ok" or "More Info..." (the only two options) it keeps coming up. Is there some way I can find out what app is triggering the message or fix the issue?

Someone else posted to right click AI, show contents>Contents>MacOS>Adobe Illustrator exec terminal (which works if you don't close that terminal).

did not solve my issue, which was that photoshop cs 5.1 - after my yosemite install - did not open and instead said i needed to install java se 6.

most links online lead you to java's website and their latest runtime is 8.  i downloaded and restarted, PS still did not open.  the apple link also just leads to java.  i even installed the developer kit of ultra brand new java version.  nada.  no working.

what solved it was downloading JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg.  bingo.

A solution is as follows - description first then terminal commands.

Inside the directory at /System/Library/Java make a directory named JavaVirtualMachines. Inside this directory make a directory called 1.6.0.jdk

Create a symlink inside /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents that points to the newly made /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk

    Make a directory inside /System/Library/Java/Support/ named Deploy.bundle

    --- terminal commands ---

    sudo mkdir /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines

    sudo mkdir /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk

    sudo ln -s /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents

    sudo mkdir /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle

    ---

In response to Loner T :

You can't really do this via Finder unless you understand that the plugin is a package. It requires a right mouse-button click to get the contextual menu. From there you can 'Show Package Contents'.

From what I have understood you are trying to delete the existing symlink :  /usr/bin/java and re-symlink to the plugin.

Given that the symlink command should have the symlink path as the second argument means the command you are trying to describe would be :

    sudo ln -s /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java /usr/bin/java

And I cannot see why that would work.

I know this thread probably is dead, I have asked a similar question in the apple forum, but nobody has answered me.

    1. I installed Yosemite 10.10.4, installed java 8 and Adobe CS6 doens't work

    2. I managed to remove java 8 and installed the shell of java 6 above and it still doesn't work.

If anyone answers here, should I:

    1. remove Yosemite and install Mountainlion again? Or is there a simple solution, I'm not sure if I can manage to do the other thing you describe with the other thing you are describing Lone T. But I would love to be able to give it a go. Is the

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java happening in Terminal??????? Really would appreciate your professional response.

    thanks,

    L
