Q: How can I uninstall programmes that I have installed from the internet?

My Mac is OS X Version 10.9.5  Processor 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  Memory 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3

It has been playing up lately, not always booting up.  Sometimes I just get a white screen and nothing else.  Other times it won't turn on at all but I found yesterday that I plugged it in and charged it up then it turned on.  So I am wondering if the battery is not holding the charge.  I have gone into the safe mode twice and each time it has worked afterwards for a couple of times and then won't turn on again. I am trying to delete everything I no longer need.  In safe mode it showed that I have loads of applications using a lot of the memory but I don't play games on it or anything like that.  I do have a lot of photos saved on it and a fair amount of music in iTunes so not sure if that has any bearing. The battery doesn't last very long and the laptop gets very hot when  not plugged into the mains.  I am not very computer literate, I know how to do what I want on it but thats about it.  If you need more info please ask but any help/advice would be much appreciated.  I dont really want to but a new one.

Thanks

Karen

    Howdy Karencamborne,

It sounds like either your battery or charger isn't quite working properly. I would start with taking a look at the MagSafe adapter troubleshooting article here:

    Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters

If that doesn't suss out the issue, then I would next reset the SMC on the computer:

Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

    Power

    • The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
    • A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
    • The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
    • The battery does not appear to be charging properly.
    • The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.

To delete applications you simply need to drag them from the Applications folder to the Trash. Some Applications have an uninstaller which will normally be with the application in a folder. Refer to the application makers documentation for proper uninstallation instructions.
