Q: MacBook Pro will not load OS X
Hoping someone in the community will be able to shed some light on this issue for me. I am working on a client's MacBook Pro (Early 2011, 2.0 GHz Intel i7, complete specs at http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.0- 15-early-2011-unibody-thunderbolt-specs.html). The system will not boot into OS X's GUI from any source. I have tried the following:
- Internal HD with OS X 10.7.5 Lion installed.
- External USB HD with OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion installed.
- Original OS X Install DVD shipped with machine (10.6.7 Snow Leopard)
Note that each of these system discs will boot flawlessly on other Mac machines.
The system will recognize each of these devices as valid system installations when booting with the option key pressed to select boot source. Both the internal and external USB HDs will successfully boot into single user mode. Running "fsck -fy" in single user mode returns no errors. Booting with verbose logging shows no errors. However, when attempting to boot into the GUI, each of the boot sources freezes on a solid color blank screen (Internal and External HDs = white, Install DVD = blue). Resetting PRAM and SMC has no effect.
I would be very grateful for any direction on this issue.
