Q: rMBP 2015 Wake Reason: ARPT (Network)

I can't seem to find out what is waking my Mac up so much. Battery life on standby is terrible. Snippet from running "syslog | grep -i "Wake reason"" through Terminal:

Can't seem to find out the issue via Google. I have extensively searched.

Appreciate any help.

P.S. this is a duplicate from rMBP 2015 10.10.3 Wake Reason: ARPT (Network). I do not know how it ended up in the OS X Mavericks section because I clearly remembered choosing Yosemite from the dropdown list. Anyhow, that one is closed and I would appreciate any help I can get from this section of the forum.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

I agree - El Cap has not solved this problem. It started sometime in April after a beta Yosemite update.

It only happened to the 2015 Model which adopted the 5th Gen Intel Broadwell Chip.

After chatting with Apple support, they seemed not very familiar with this like they never heard of it. So the problem might not be considered specifically when they update new OS versions I guess. Well hopefully it'll happen to be solved soon :-(

I thought it'd been solved. My fault. I was so excited thinking that it's finally be solved that I reported back too soon. As long as your wifi is on, it would constantly wake your mac up. Specifically for 2015 Broadwell chipset model.

Enhanced notifications that can wake your Mac

Above is a useful link for Broadwell mac user. But even I use DNT, WiFi would still keep waking up. I've chatted with Care too long ago. They told me the same thing as you've described. El Capitan aint gonna fix this at least for now. As a result, I've developed a habit of turning off wifi before sleep. LOL

This seems to be not a Broadwell-specific issue. On my Macbook 15" Mid 2015 (still Haswell) I have the same issues.

That would be a surprise. I once thought it's limited to BDW. Now we have to question Apple what they did to the 2015 model.

Some additional info: Most often I get the following wake reason in the log:

ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on TCP Timeout

It seems like Apple wants this to happen. But I care more about battery and stability=.=

Anyway, I'm already doing the same thing as your new habit, haha.

    <Notice>: Wake reason: ARPT (Network)

<Notice>: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on Scan offload; Disconnect reason: Unknown

Same issue here. I really don't know what and why this happens. No difference if the mbp is sleeping with or without power cable. I've also a issue with Wi-Fi after sleep. It won't turn on and I have to restart a mbp for accessing to Wi-Fi networks, but this not happen every single time I open my lid and wake up a macbook from sleep.

I'll propably call to the apple tech support on Monday and asking what is that "Wake on Scan" and is it possible to turn off.

    10.10.4 Yosemite and rMBP 13" early 2015.

FYI, I once contacted the Apple Support. At that time, they knew nothing about this issue. For the last two days, El Capitan did a great job not waking up my mac. Maybe, just maybe it's improved in 10.11. There are still some wake events causing by ARPT. But it's greatly reduced. However I could not give a final say. Maybe it's just coincidence. If you're willing, you could try out public beta of El Capitan.

A week ago I tried the El Capitan but it totally broke my Wi-fi. I was not able to turn it on after first sleep. Restart etc. did not do the job. I had to install a latest backup via time machine for getting the unit working again.

Edit: Btw I just ran the diagnostic (shut down -> power on -> immediately press D and wait for the diagnostic start). No issues found.

Quite surprised. Mine is Model MF840 with 16G ram customised. There should not be any issues with 2015 13' model. BTW, El Capitan is way smoother than Yosemite. All kinds of animations are greatly improved.

I have the same issue (rMBP 15" 2015, latest Yosemite release)

    Terminal outputs me dozens of:

kernel[0] <Notice>: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on TCP Data

    kernel[0] <Notice>: AppleDeviceManagementHIDEventService::processWakeReason Wake reason: Host (0x01)

    kernel[0] <Notice>: Wake reason: ?

Power Nap is disabled for battery usage (and there is no Wifi wakeup toggle for battery usage here).

Battery drained by 30% over night. That is simply not acceptable (my previous Macbook was a MBA 13" Mid-2012 that lost like 2-5% a few nights at most).

I reset the SMC a few minutes ago and ran diagnostics (nothing unusual came up).

A temporary fix is to disable wifi before your mac sleeps.
