Q: I can't transfer Apple Music to iPod Nano

I started Apple Music trial, and I added some songs to My Music library, when I connect my iPod Nano 7g and try to sync. It says that song was not copied to the iPod because it is a subscription item.

It is supposed that I can play them offline, right?

iPod nano, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), null

i also find it unacceptable not to be able to carry Apple Music on my iPod. I listen to it in the car and on the train where there's no streaming service. I like deggies' idea of expiring the music after a certain amount of days With the caveat that the iPod must be synced to keep the songs active.  They expire movie rentals now. We can access the Apple Music for all other Apple devices Except iPods Whose main function is to play music.  there are a great many intelligent people at Apple. I hope Mr. Cook can see the value of allowing customers to listen to Apple Music on their iPods.

You can't transfer downloaded items from one device to another in any case, only download them on the item in question (you can't transfer movie rentals from one device to another either). Obviously you can't do that on a Nano or Shuffle. The music industry has insisted on very tight controls to prevent people being able to download music and then listen to it without paying the subscription, which would defeat the whole point of the exercise. You are asking to be able to do something which the system is not designed to do: if you want to listen to songs on a non-connected device you are going to have to buy it and I can't see that being likely to change. The suggestion about changing the firmware on Nanos to permit this would have to be forced onto every Nano ever made - an unlikely situation.

Apparently there has been a rumor that was mentioned today (2015.07.14) which is an announcement of a new iPod Nano.

    http://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/10/new-ipod-touch-nano-shuffle-july-14/

I guess they rushed the idea of Apple Music to get it started without planning to get their devices all compatible with the feature.

More bad planning as usual. The only problem is when do we expect them, can't they think of a patch for the time being to get those iPod nano's in use but I guess I already mentioned that and doesn't look promising after the rumor of a new iPod.

So far that rumor has not been proven and if you read it all it talked about was new colors for the Nano and Shuffle. The iPod Touch is already compatible and the article mentions a new processor, etc. for it. So I guess they didn't rush it after all.

I guess I was a little bit excited about the idea of having a new iPod nano but afraid not. Yet again what a waste to be having an iPod Nano. Main purpose of it to listen to music from the Nano & Shuffle

What is amazing is two months ago there was apparently no problems with your iPod Nano and you were enjoying it. Then Apple Music is announced and somehow made your Nano a waste. So if they had never gone to Apple Music, or it failed and was cancelled then it would no longer be a waste?

I am reading / following this thread with great interest.

What would happen if I mark albums to be available Offline (in Apple Music) on an iPod touch 5th generation and I would take the device with me to gym, where no wifi / internet connection is available?

    Cheers.

    Gerard.

If Apple Music was designed to make people to listen to music then iPod Nano/Shuffle should've been part of it. Having Apple Music is great but only if you use your iPhone or iPod Touch, but in my case I use an iPod Nano to listen to music while running or working out. In other words I would end up choosing one plan either to be involved in Apple Music or not .. I guess its that simple but again there are probable possibility of having the Apple Music run on your iPod Nano/Shuffle, just a matter of decision making.

Apple Music was designed to compete against other Music services such as Spotify, Google Play Music, Groove (former Xbox Music) and soon Facebook Music and since none of them are available to work on shuffle or nano (hence wifi not available) then Apple decided to exclude them from that option.

If I disable wifi and cellular data on my iphone 6, I can still play the off-line content, so that looks pretty hopeful.

Thanks for the info, it was helpful. I wish I could have read that earlier, rather than going through reading other people's comments that felt almost offensive in a way assuming that we are retards and don't want to accept the concept of having music in any device whether with or without WIFI.

    Thanks again
