Q: I have an iPod touch

I have an iPod touch (8GB) 1st gen (Yes from 2008). Now I have barely used this device because something happened to it and the screen is stuck at the black screen (no apple logo). My macbook recognizes it when plugged in and has completely restored it. However, the iPod will not show any signs of turning on. Have tried everything from restoring and resetting. Don't know what to do at this point, thinking a hammer might be the solution. Am I SOL? Or is there hope?

Any advice would be greatly appreciate... even if told to get the hammer!

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
