Q: Ipad connects to network but has wrong IP and DNS
Long story short. I am living in a motel and have become the go to guy for tech support here. I have an iPad Mini 2, iPod Touch, and a PC all of which have a good connection to the network and are able to access the internet. Another person here has an iPhone, iPad Mini, and a Mac, all of which cannot access the internet. The weird thing is that each device is connected to the network and has 3 bars, but they all have the wrong IP and DNS!? Also AT&T appears next to the wireless signal strength and in the Wi-Fi settings under Search Domains is a netgear router which does not belong there as the motel is not using an netgear router. As far as I can tell the IP, subnet mask, router, and DNS are all from their home network settings.
I have tried everything I can think of to dump the info like forget network then reconnect, renew lease, turn off then on the Wi-Fi and nothing has worked. I could enter a static IP but am not sure which IP to assign as I fear a conflict with DHCP. The persons iPad is different than mine as theirs is cellular while mine is not... I assume a cellular setting could be the problem?
As I am most failure with PC's I turn to the Apple Gods to give me some guidance. Any help I can get will make the weary traveler I am trying to help very happy.
Thanks in advance.
