Q: I watch causing Wrist and arm numbing and pain?

Hi everyone,

i'm on day 6 of using my i watch, which i love, however for the past 4/5 days is have been experiencing numbing and a tingling sensation on my arm.

It's actually very painful on my wrist at this point.

I decided, on day 4, to try it on my right arm. About 2 hours later I started experiencing the same thing.

I own the Stainless Steel I watch with the Milanese Loop.

Was wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing?

Although I absolutely love it because it has been very helpful for me in the gym I think i will be returning it.

Would like to hear anyone else's input.

Thanks

I am experiencing pain in my left arm and tingling where the sensors are on the skin.  And yes, I am going to the doctor to try to figure this out.  This is very miserable.  And I LOVE my watch.  This started about 2 weeks after I purchased the watch.  Now I am going on one month and having a lot of pain.

Try wearing the watch on your right wrist for a few days.

Also, I got a different strap (leather magnet) and I don't have the numbness anymore.

Do you have any neck problems? Maybe a chiropractor could help if there are any pinched nerves. Just a thought.

just an update for me. so still dealing with apple. they asked me to see a doctor. when i described the issues to him he immediately went to an irritation of the ulnar nerve int he wrist. he doesn't know why the apple watch is causing this and not other watches( i have a pebble steel with no issues) but he said its fairly common with wrist worn items. it might just be the shape of the watch and how its sitting on my wrist. i've fed this back to apple and they are still looking in to it.

I've tried everything i can, new bands, different tightness, different wrist, even worn watch not on to see if ti was something wrong with the electronics and the symptoms always occur. Only thing i have tried yet is a different watch ie size or material so hoping that might be the next step.

Did you also notice that you still had tingling as if you had received a notification when you were not wearing the band?  I have had tingling for the past 48 hours with and without the band on.  It feels exactly as it does when the watch alerts me to notifications.

Glad you figured that out. That observation has been made here a number of times, not to mention by writers in the tech press. The paranoids, however, continue to blame their issues on "radiation".

You need to face the fact that you are dealing with a segment of humanity that rejects logic and science. Notice that NONE of them are talking about a lawsuit over this alleged issue. They know full well that they would get absolutely nowhere with that. Why? Of course the government and scientists are covering it up and it’s all a giant conspiracy theory to protect ‘special interests.’ Isn’t that always their answer? These are also the types that refuse to vaccinate their children.

You’d be better off and less stressed by simply ignoring these irrational people and their claims.

i was wearing apple watch first few days in a "normal wrist-watch" mode, just checking time. however, i did start feeling the pain in my wrist/sometimes elbow when i started using apple watch much more active, checking the maps, weather, tracks are playing. I've also noticed that because it's a new gadget and you want to play with it - you will raise your wrist and face the watch A LOT more often than a normal wrist watch.

most probably that's the reason for my pain in the wrist. i think in nearby future ill get used to apple watch and will not check em every second, so the wrist will be ok

I had the same reaction with an hour of wearing the watch on my left hand.  I switched to my right side. took 2 hours.

I believe its a reaction to the electronics.  I have similar reactions to anything using pulsed electromagnetic stimulation.

Im going to try wearing it again tomorrow on right side first. I really want this watch but its PAINFUL.. nerves hurt like heck.

I just read a review of an Apple Watch wearer and they experienced pain, etc too.  Turns out they were wearing the watch too low on their wrist.  They moved it up above the wrist bone and that solved the problem.  Have you tried that??

    Hi,

How has your watch been. I'm one of the few that have this pain from the wrist all the way up to my shoulder. I've tried 4 different apple watch combinations (SS, SS Black, Sport, Sport Gold) all same pain in both wrists / arms.

    Just don't understand it!

I got my watch this morning and have already started to feel the pain on the top of my wrist where the watch sits.

Its like its hitting a nerve, or like a very very small electrical surge is going through my wrist.

Not worn it long enough to tell if the pain travels up my arm but this is worrying me, and Im debating returning it.

Anyone had any answers from apple about it?

Apple has information on their website about the materials in the phone and it is possible you have an allergy or you are wearing it too tight over a nerve. Since the Watch does not have a cell radio and does not emit any ionizing radiation there is nothing for Apple to comment about.

Well, there are answers from orthopedists about it. The watch is resting on a nerve. Try moving it up your arm a little. In addition, you probably are looking at it frequently. Even if you were a watch user before, you didn't look at your watch as often as you do at the Apple Watch. The motion of lifting your arm to see it puts more strain on the tendons in your wrist.

I have tried the following AW combinations since launch :

    1. SS with Milanese Loop

    2. SS with third party metal strap

    3. Space Grey Sport with Sport Band

    4. Space Black SS with Sport Band

    5. Gold Sport with Sport Band

I have also been wearing a standard Calvin Klein and Armani Stainless Steel watch for 10 years with no problems so not sure its down to a nickel or stainless steel allergy .

I tried the original SS with Milanese Loop for 3 weeks on most wrist settings / both arms ( loose / snug etc.) and the pain continued. I then left the AW's for a few months and started trying them again (as I really wanted one) and wore them for around 2-3 days at a time but due to the pain / discomfort almost immediately occurring was forced to return back to apple.

I have never seen any visible signs of an allergy or noticed any skin irritation whilst using the Apple Watch's so its either an internal allergy or the protruding sensor bulge doesn't sit right of my wrist.

My brothers got an AW and doesn't give him any pain. I tried it over the weekend but this time covering the sensors with thin soft plastic so it didn't have contact with my skin but unfortunately same issue within 30 mins of having it on.

Just to finish off I did report this to apple and they had no answers or suggestions for me which I appreciated as there so few people with these issues.

I feel I'm having the same issue. When I wear the watch I do seem to be getting a quite noticeable tingling in my left wrist and hand, occasionally travelling up the arm. I've only had the issue since I got the watch last Thursday. I've had a Pebble before and didn't have this issue, but the Apple Watch started to cause a problem about 2 days into wearing. It then settled down after a day of not wearing it, and since starting to wear it again it's giving me grief. Might have to go back to Apple . I've got the Apple Watch 42mm Sport though so slightly different to some others. I've tried loosening it a little but that doesn't seem to make much difference.

Such a shame - I love this watch, it's miles apart from the Pebble. Maybe some work on the design is needed as it seems a small number are having similar issues.
