Jul 17, 2015 4:06 AM in response to remolanotby OGELTHORPE,If this is the original install DVD for your MBP, it should work. A retail Snow Leopard disk (white in color) should work. The DVD or the drive may be faulty.
You will have to partition the HDD in order to install Snow Leopard (separate from the Yosemite partition).
Ciao.

Jul 17, 2015 4:05 PM in response to OGELTHORPEby remolanot,BTW, why retail Snow Leopard disk, not Mac OS X Install DVD that came on my MacBook Pro?

Jul 17, 2015 4:23 PM in response to remolanotby OGELTHORPE,I am assuming that you eventually want to run Yosemite (or any other OSX Lion or later) and as a requisite, you must have 10.6.8 installed on your MBP. The retail disk will install 10.6.3 and then a combo update will install 10.6.8:

Installing Leopard becomes an unnecessary step.
Ciao.

I don't know. It may not be possible.

I do not understand exactly what you are doing and the configuration. Exactly how are you trying to install the OSX?
Ciao.
