Q: I unplugged an external Hard Drive before it was completely ejected. Now both Aperture and Final Cut Pro are having a impossible time opening the libraries on this drive. Any Ideas

The hard drive shows up in Finder but opening and transferring files is incredibly slow.

    Try this:

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion

    Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.

    Repair

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

If you have not tried this yet -- use the shut-down option from the mac icon to power off your computer.  Wait a minute & power back on.

Some times that is the only way to clean up conflicts.

Repairing the drive will do this automatically in the process.

Thanks Kappy I will give that a go. I have tried using the Disk Utility from the application folder with out any changes so I will try it from the Recovery HD.

You must do it from the Recovery HD if you want to repair the drive.
