Q: new entries revert to "new event"

Just within the last few days, Calendar has begun consistently misbehaving. I create a new event, assign it to a calendar, fill in information such as time and notes. I close the editing window, the new title displays (I'm using Month View) for just a second, and then it reverts to "New Event," and everything I've entered is lost. Oddly, when I enter all the information a second time, it always seems to stay.

As far as I know, I haven't made any changes to my OS (10.9.5) or to Calendar (7.0), neither via their settings nor any other way. FYI, I'm using iCloud to sync between the calendars on my MBPro and my iPhone (4S, running 7.1.2).

Switched mostly to Apple devices few years ago, really liked most products; then switched whole family to it.

But sorry to say, lately, quality more and more nitty gritty quality problems.

This seemingly minor calender issue shouldn't appear in the first place; and seems Apple is beginning to ignore

or deprioritize user experience issue.  That's a shame because many got to like Apple because of user navigation experience.

    But now now !!!!

Totally agree! Switched to Apple because OSX was stable (Snow Leopard) and no s*h*i*t*t*y consumer features or updates all the time. Now it s*u*c*k*s more and more and as a professional it's really annoying to see a new OS every half/whole year or so. With loads of faults and making your computer slower... so you can buy a new one

Apple is just becoming another Microsoft... just hiding underneath modern design  :-/

If I use the + sign  (Quick Event) for any calendar other than the Home calender it keeps the Event title but reverts to the Home calendar. Only way I can add an Event to any other calendar is by editing the event after it's entered in Home. I started having problems around a few days ago. Macbook Air with 10.9.5.

Argh! I apologize. I was trying to reply to acmac in a much earlier post.

In my reply, "Home" calendar means the default calendar.

I'm glad people have found another calendar program for their needs but I don't feel this is a solution. Why should I have to purchase software to fix a problem with Apple software that I already paid for? From reading comments it appears that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't fix the problem (not that I want to upgrade after reading reviews!) Anyway, because it *is* a problem in Yosemite, than perhaps <?> Apple will address the problem.

I agree whole-heartedly with every point made here. Apple's ethos (if it existed after the demise of Jobs) is devolving into one of style over substance. What galls me the most is their apparent contempt for customer feedback - look at the hundreds of threads here, many of which are bug reports going back several years - most are not addressed. Apple, we are regularly informed, do not bother to read these areas. Here is a startling example of how they blatantly disregard criticism - on their own Apple Store... so wrapped up in their own deluded wonderment that they are happy to have hundreds of customers report what is clearly a manufacturing quality issue on their own accessory shop pages: (yes folks, it is merely a USB- lightning cable - seems even getting these simple things right is a major task for them) http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/reviews/MD818ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-cable-1m?fnode=2 d3b8b50bb23b0c325e41f1540585e7a6bb6298031637b4947bdfb33e7b6f7d905dce9e36da9b7fc7 384bbeb3a9ec991eeccc684db2a6fff835d2ddcd478e061c9ae5f6137d10a41ba5fab9ddcb133cf5 2978161e94e2bbdfec1a5af950b0c0c87e5d0e40a56816574ae3eae753f4026&page=0&rf=1

Re my previous post - does anyone here get the impression there is no quality assurance department anymore? I guess they could have closed the division and sacked everyone in order to pay for the rather costly acquisition of Beats headphones (not very good sound quality either if I have to say so)

I'm sorry this is happening to so many people, but glad it's not just me. The only thing I've found to do is type in the event title, copy it, hit return, click on the "new event" that it has reverted to and copy the title and add all the details. It always "takes" the second time around. What freaks me out is finding a "new event" with no information and not knowing whether an actual event disappeared, or whether I merely touched the screen and created one accidentally. Since Yosemite evidently doesn't fix the problem, Apple needs to step up and resolve it. This makes Mac Calendar unreliable, IMHO.

Ok. So I have just had this happen with an event I modified in iOS! Modified an already-existing appointment by changing the Calendar (color) and it reverted to the HOME calendar. SO. What did I do? Well yes sportsfans. I did it again. I FIRED my iOS calendar.   I replaced it with 'Calendars 5'  *Once again an improvement over the stock calendar in terms of reliability and capability.

What's next Apple? The Reminders app? Notes App? It's all good. There are replacements for those too. And when the OS is simply the only smoking corpse left, I switch to Linux Ubuntu. It's all good Apple. I can do this all day.

    Cheers!

IMHO Apple is just showing that their software is not reliable enough for professional use anymore!!!

I started having random reboots of my computer, calendar issues, export issues in my music DAW and much more in Mavericks. Downgraded to Mountain Lion the other day (fortunately had a clone of my old disk) and wow! Works quicker, no random crashes, works better with my DAW software, iCal still have the same issues though and it crashes sometimes when trying to input time in the event for the first time (which tells us it's probably an iCloud issue).

Most of all I would love to go back to Snow Leopard… but unfortunately Apple have changed the coding for the menu system so most newer programs won't work with it! Hurray for your genius let's-have-everyone-update-update-update-all-the-time plan! The perfect recipe for loads of non-functional situations and conflicts between programs!

This problem began for me at the time this thread appeared.  I have found a third-party solution (running Mavericks):  I use Fantastical, which is a great menubar app that relies on Calendar.  All events I enter in Calendar using Fantastical stick properly, regardless of the calendar and default calendar.

Fantastical is smarter than Calendar, anyway.  And this cure suggests that this doesn't seem to be a synching issue with the cloud, but an internal bug in Calendar itself.

It's pretty clear to me that this has to be an iCloud syncing issue (but there are other possibilities and those are actually worse). Because as I say, I started having intermittent problems with the iOS calendar (admittedly not nearly as bad as the Mac Calendar, but still). AND (it would be better if I were making this up for everyone but I am just NOT), my NOTES started acting wonkey (it's been going on a week). When I make a change in a note it sometimes (fairly frequently actually) will duplicate the title of the previous note but the data will have all of the correct information for the note you are in.

So either these problems are part of an iCloud Sync issue or the Mac OS and iOS Calendar and the Notes app (in my experience anyway) are all having separate issues. Neither is good in terms of reliability. *I am running a Mac Mini and a Macbook Air, both on Mavericks, iPhone and a new iPad Mini.

Just makes the most sense to me to start looking at other solutions. Mainly because of the lack of response from Apple than anything else for me. If someone were to ask me if I could recommend Apple right now I would just make an excuse that I couldn't talk right now and leave the conversation. I mean, can you imagine a new user trying the Calendar and having it wonk-out like that on them? Talk about seeding major buyers remorse.

Thanks for the warning. An earlier poster said it's gone in 10.10, but as my 10.10 computer suffers from disappearing disk space, I'd rather stick with 10.9 if there's a chance upgrading doesn't fix this problem.

Why can't Apple fix this? Why did they break it in the first place? I should switch to Google Calendar.

Just wondering if people are still having this problem?  For the last 2 weeks iCal has been working as it should whenever I create a new event in iCal using 10.9.5 or 10.10 on my macs or on my iPhone or iPad (both running iOS 8.4).  These are all synced via same iCloud account.

Would appear that it is a sync related issue.
