Q: Recommended color correction plug-in for FCP X? HyColour Pro? Color Finale? Hawaiki?

I want to get my color correction as good as possible. I do doc work and usually don't color grade much. I was trying to choose a plug-in for color correction in FCP X and was trying to decide between HyColour Pro and Color Finale. I was leaning towards HyColour Pro cause that seems more geared towards color correction, but I wondered if any here had any thoughts? Perhaps go instead for Hawaiki AutoGrade?

My personal opinion would be to chose Color Finale. Being able to use LUTs and layer based grading are enough but there are many more benefits to Color Finale. Using it in conjunction Core Melts trackX makes it a no brainer for me.

    I hope this helps.

Before you spend any money, did you take a good look at the built-in color correction?

Been using Color Finale since the day it came out and it a great color app. The developer stays on top of it and fixes very quickly if an upgrade/update to FCPX or the OS breaks Color Finale.  I can see this app going places.

If you like to get you hand dirty there is DaVinci Resolve Lite, it's free. CLICK HERE ------ Click here to look for updates

It's not only a color corrector, it's also an editor. You can round-trip from FCP X to Resolve and back again to FCP X (or Resolve to FCP X). Resolve version 12 should be out soon. There is a download for DaVinci Resolve Lite in the App Store. Updates in the App Store are slow or never come. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube.

BTW, the color corrector in FCP X is layer base now. You can also load LUTs...

Any thoughts on trying to learn Color Finale vs Resolve? I don't mind just doing my editing within FCP X. I'm really just looking for something to make color correction a bit easier and better than the internal controls of FCP X which, while good, I've outgrown a bit.
