Jun 12, 2015 3:40 AM in response to VinceCharmingby rgs1511,Well the solution was an exchange for a new/refurbished iPad air of exactly the same spec as the failed one. I visited and Apple store and was told the red flash was an indication of a hardware failure and not a SW anomaly. The only possibility was to part exchange and get another iPad at a discounted price from new but with only a 90 day warranty! Buy a new iPad in Europe and I get a 2 year warranty. It just doesn't figure! Anyway I am addicted to the iPad and use it more than my MacBook. So it had to be done. At only a cost of time and money.

Jun 12, 2015 12:29 PM in response to VinceCharmingby Pete Kroner,Thanks... I'll keep asking at our Users Group on Thursday. No solutions as yet. Apparently it is an iPad "thing" and the sales or Apple iPads are way down because of it. Apple seems oblivious to the problem....
Looking for "alternatives" at this point.

Jun 15, 2015 6:10 AM in response to rgs1511by VinceCharming,Hi rgs1511,
sorry to hear that you've had to pay the Out of Warranty repair cost's i.e. buy a reconditioned iPad with only "90 days" cover ?
With regards the Warranty in Europe, in the UK its actually
Consumer Law in the United Kingdom Apple One-Year Limited Warranty AppleCare Protection Plan or AppleCare+ Claim period England and Wales: 6 years from date of delivery
Scotland: 5 years from date of delivery1 year from date of purchase Up to 3 years from date of purchase for Mac or Apple display,
Up to 2 years from date of purchase for Apple TV, iPad, iPhone or iPodHowever it's whether Apple consider it to be a fault at their end or not, in my case apparently it's wear and tear and it's nothing to do with the iOS 8 upgrade I performed, even though it was working fine before the upgrade. So just because it says in Law that we have up to 6 years to make a claim from date of delivery, it doesn't mean Apple will actually provide Warranty repairs, even if the product is only 3 years old . . though as mentioned previously some customers have had what Apple define as Out of Warranty repairs FOC, while myself and numerous other customers not doubt have been told it will be done for a set fee.
Though Apple Customer Support are presently still ignoring my request for the criteria they use to decide who pays and who doesn't, it's all very hit and miss at the moment I'm afraid.
Just our of curiosity where in the world are you based to only get 90 days warranty ?

Jun 15, 2015 6:12 AM in response to Pete Kronerby VinceCharming,Have you tried contact the Customer Support/Services about it, maybe one of their fixes might work, or even better you might fit the criteria for a FOC Out of Warranty repair ? (Whatever the criteria is ?)

Jul 1, 2015 1:14 AM in response to VinceCharmingby VinceCharming,Well in just over 2 months it will be the anniversary of Apples release of iOS 8, the iOS that killed my iPad 2 and still Apple refuse to answer simple questions I have posed to them via email, they continue to ignore my emails or acknowledge receipt of them.
My only replies thus far have been Out of Office messages when the EMIA is on holiday.
It appears that if their iOS causes a hardware failure then it's your responsibility to pay for the repairs, not Apples.
Very disappointed in Apple to say the least . . .there's quite a few other words going round in my head with regards Apple and their Customer Service/Support, but as this is a public forum and possibly may be read by minors or gentle folk I refuse to say them out aloud, but I'm sure if you've had similar dealings with Apple you'll know the words I wish to use.

Jul 1, 2015 8:57 PM in response to rgs1511by Pete Kroner,Smartphones seem to be replacing the iPad like devices.... Especially if they don't work anymore. There are alternatives at best buy and Costco and at good prices...but with a good smartphone who needs the pad!

Jul 6, 2015 6:41 AM in response to VinceCharmingby VinceCharming,Still being ignored by Apple Customer Services/Support, not bad going nearly approaching a year since the release of iOS 8 the iOS update that broke my iPad 2 . . . .

Jul 6, 2015 10:22 AM in response to rgs1511by Pete Kroner,After the newest update on my iPad I'm watching the white apple of death icon on my black Screen Rebooting yet again. Will Apple ever fix this problem? Does the Samsung Galaxy have the same problem?

Jul 12, 2015 4:20 AM in response to VinceCharmingby m4dman,ios8 has also made my iPad 2 unusable, there is no way that this is a hardware issue, everyone that I know has got the very same issue. Apple need to treat their customers with some respect and just let ios7 to be installed and stop using all as beta testers.
yes Apple will keep the apple sheep but to build you need respect all your customer
its all about taking responsibility and putting things right

Jul 13, 2015 3:11 AM in response to m4dmanby VinceCharming,m4dman,
Totally agree with you, but unfortunately Apple Customer Services or Support don't . . but hey they have other things to worry about now, they've got Stain Gate on their hands now and our problems will no doubt be forgotten about, I'm still emailing Apple EMIA' with no response's thus far to my latest batch of questions . .
Might go on the Stain Gate facebook page and ask if I can post the issue's that us "iOS 8 broke my ipad" people are having in getting a proper response from Apple

Jul 17, 2015 10:30 AM in response to VinceCharmingby marcos186,Hello Mate:
RIP to my iPad2 too, same problem you had and I reckon it was the iOS 8 as well.
Won't buy an apple device anymore.
Sad, quite sad here!

From my experience of Apps development, I believe it's the problem related to map/location data. After I turn off the Location Services (in Settings > Privacy), everything just went smoothly and perfectly!
So, please try these:
1. Simple Approach: go to Settings > Privacy: Turn off the Location Services. This should work in most case I think. But if it doesn't, try step 2 below:
2. If and only if the above does not work, then: (1) plug your iPad to your computer; (2) hold down the home button + switch button for 30 seconds; (3) choose restore your iPad from iTune; (4) when it go to the screen asking IF YOU WANT TO TURN ON THE LOCATION SERVICE, select NO.
Please let us know if the above work for you? (At least work for me perfectly) -
Jul 20, 2015 11:09 AM in response to labviso.comby labviso.com,I think this will be an even better approach:
(1) plug your iPad to your computer;
(2) hold down the home button + switch button for 30 seconds;
(3) choose restore your iPad from iTune;
(4) set up your iPad. When it go to the screen asking IF YOU WANT TO TURN ON THE LOCATION SERVICE, select NO.
(5) after you finish all setup, you should be able to use your iPad (at least works perfectly for me)
(6) Go to settings > privacy.
(7) turn ON the location services.
(8) Click "system service" from the location services menu.
(9) Disable all services.
(10) Try to enable those services you think necessary ONE BY ONE. After you enable a service, open some apps, close the iPad and login again etc to make sure everything works smoothly.
Please let us know if the above work for you? (At least works for me perfectly) -
Jul 21, 2015 6:44 AM in response to marcos186by VinceCharming,Marcos186,
did you contact Apple Customer Support and they told you that it was a memory module ?
Yes it is very very sad when like me you find there's people out there who have the same product as myself or a later version of the iPad that is also out of supposed warranty and they get there's replaced because it has a faulty home or power button for free, while people like myself or you are told we have to pay £266/£299 for an Out of Warranty repair.
At the moment I'm still awaiting a response, well any response in fact from Apple Customer Support/Services with regards how they work out the criteria of who gets a FOC Out of Warranty repair and who doesn't . . just appears at the moment its pot luck on whether you get someone at Apple who actually cares about the customer or someone who just doesn't.
There's no line defined on what is FOC and what isn't ?
