Q: After upgrading to Mavericks, my Thunderbolt display does not wake from sleep.

Upgraded to Mavericks. Using a 15" Early 2011 MBP with a Thunderbolt display attached. A Firewire drive is connected to the display. Every time the MBP is awoken from sleep, the display stays off, and a notification is displayed saying the drive was not ejected properly.

Each time, I need to unplug the thunderbolt connector and reattach it.

Has anyone else seen this behavior/have a fix?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

This is quite a long and old thread, however, I have recently been experiencing the problem "Apple Thunderbolt does not wake up from sleep".  I have an Apple Air connected and powered by the Thunderbolt display.  Now more often than not, when the Thunderbolt display goes to sleep, it will not wake up NOR power the air.  The only solution I have found to work (including at the resets mentioned in this thread) is to unplug, wait 30 seconds, replug in the Thunderbolt display to AC power.

I spoke to Apple Support and they are now quite aware of the problem as a Apple Thunderbolt hardware problem.  Being under warranty, I will be visiting the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store tomorrow with heavy display in hand.

If you're still under warranty, call and specifically mention that your problem is "Apple Thunderbolt does not wake up from sleep and NOT powering Macbook".  They should find it in their support database and set up an appointment for you.  Hope this helps!
