What no more Aperture software? Why? I was looking forward to using it.

Please tell me why, no more updates or upgrades?

Thanks,

Aperture won't even open for me. 27,000 photos in Aperture..and Boom, just like that, I can't access anything. Not too happy. I've been working on this for hours without success!

This thread is a year old. But the latest version of Aperture still works fine on Yosemite.

I can't access the later version. I have Aperture 3.5.1. My current version is not accessible....with thousands of pictures in my library. I tried all the suggestions...moving the current version to the trash, avoid emptying it, then "download" the newer version from "purchases". This is not working. I'm pretty aggravated. I have a few shots I need to sell this week and can't access them.

Hi Michelle, this a poor way to ask for help as few will notice your question - it would be better if you start a new thread with your question.

One important detail which we need to know to help you is if your Aperture Library is contains anged images (stored inside the library) or referenced images (stored outside the library).

If the images are referenced, the you will know the location, and thus can retreive at least the masters, or originals. So I guess that is not your situation. (but I am not sure).

I guess that you masters are managed - IMO, time to retrieve what you can. And make some backups. Start by making a backup copy of the Aperure Library. Now, use Finder to select the Aperture Library, right click on it, and select "Show Package Contents". This will cause Finder to go inside the Aperture library. Select the "Masters" folder, and copy it (do NOT move it) to your desktop. If there is an "old Masters" folder copy that too. Then I would backup your copies.

Then, use Aperture to rebuild your Aperture Library, as follows: use Finder to select the Aperture Library, then hold down the Command and Option keys while double-clicking the Aperture library. This will bring up a menu allowing you to repair permissions, repair database, or rebuild. I would try each one, in that order (but I suspect it is rebuild that you need).

If that doesn't work, I don't think there are any other options unless you have a backup of the Aperture Library.

There needs to be a caveat to the latest TV commercials:

We make the hardware AND the software...

... well, we USED to, if you are a photographer.

Why no more Aperture ....simple really, in Q3 they sold 47 million iPhones 11 million iPads and 5 million macs,

At a ratio of 10-1 iOS over OSX what would you spend development money on.

With Yosemite you need to update to Aperture 3.6.

Updating is a bit involved since Apple does no longer sell Aperture from the App Store. You can only update by reinstalling and not by updating.

See this User Tip:   Updating to Aperture 3.6 After the Release of Photos
