Q: unsuccessful install of iTunes player on Win XP platform

Tried to install a Win XP SP3 - compatible version from a website (don't recall if it was an "Apple" site), and it did not successfully install, and was not present in "control Panel" to uninstall.

Then tried to download directly from Apple. After installation, when trying to run the app, I got message: The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read beacause it was created by a newer version of iTunes

I've now uninstalled all Apple apps, and would like to try again.

Where should I start so as to be successful

I think you mean the feature which is now called Internet Radio. It is enabled from the icon made up of three dots.

The last version to support Windows XP SP3 and Vista is 12.1.2.27. See the older versions section of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for direct links. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for information on how to roll back your library if needed.

Now that I was able to install iTunes, I'm very disappointed that the old selection of streaming radio stations no longer exists, especially the college stations. Very disappointing that the iTunes app has lost this feature, and now seems to have become useless for me. Unless I'm mistaken, Apple now seems only interested in capital gains.
