Q: Can't stop opendirectoryd to stop using 100% of the CPU on my Macbook Pro

In short, opendirectoryd is constantly using 100% CPU time and making the fans spin up to almost full speed almost all the time. It happens always when on my corporate wifi network. At home, it happens if I VPN into our corporate domain. On my regular wifi network without VPN, opendirectoryd will usually behave normally.

I've tried many recommended fixes:

I found this article at apple support: OS X: If the opendirectoryd process CPU utilization is high after updating to OS X v10.9.5 - Apple Support

It turned out that my domain search was already configured the way they recommend in the article, so I didn't change anything.

Then I flushed cached settings as detailed here: Managed Client: How to flush cached settings - Apple Support

Then I reset y PRAM / NVRAM. No change.

Then I upgraded to Yosemite, and did all the above again. No change.

I have a late 2014 Macbook Pro. I first experienced this problem under Mavericks, so I went ahead and upgraded to Yosemite hoping for it to go away, but it didn't.

My account is not managed - it's a local account. But I do have a managed account elsewhere in my system for our sysadmin.

Just looking to get opendirectoryd to stop using so much CPU.

Thank you for your help

Mac OS X (10.6.7)
