Q: Working Wacom Drivers for Yosemite?

I had this same problem when I upgraded to Mavericks and now it happens again with Yosemite. My old Wacom tablets no longer work. With Mavericks, only one of the legacy drivers would work. Some version in the middle (not the latest). With Yosemite, I can't get anything to work. Either it won't load the preference pane after install or it doesn't see anything connected.

I have two Wacom Tablets:

  • Intuos 2 XD-0608-U
  • Intuos GD-0608-U

Has anyone had any luck with getting an old Wacom to work? As before, Wacom doesn't seem interested in updating their drivers for legacy users. It's a shame because the equipment itself still works great. Any 3rd party alternative drivers out there?

I can't be the only one with this problem. Maybe if we put our brains together on this thread, we can find a solution.

For my Intuos 4 PTK 640: I tried this and installed the "latest driver" which at this moment is 6.3.11.3a and it didn't work. THen I uninstalled the tablet software again, restarted, then installed 6.3.9.w3 and it works!! Even the preference pane is working. Woo Hoo!

Going to Applications, clicking get info on the Systems Preferences and checking ''Open in 32-bit mode' worked for me with an Intuos2.

Not sure what opening in 32-bit will do to other programs though?

    @Gibberling.

Thank you kindly for the instructional post. I think, at the time of writing, it has helped me solve the immediate issues.

    Kind regards.

    Hey Everyone,

I'm on the intuos 5 and couldn't get the drivers to work.  Here's what finally solved the issue.

Go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor to see if there is any process running named TabletDriver or WacomTabletDriver.

If there's nothing running, proceed with the workaround

If there are drivers running, stop them.

Close out of Activity Monitor and go to MacintoshHD (or the name of your harddisk) > Library > Application Support > Tablet

From in there, there may be a Wacomtabletdriver folder containing a Wacomtabletdriver file  This folder should not be present in the current driver. Insetad, the 'Tablet' folder should contain the 'Wacomtabletdriver' file itself!

Move the Wacomtabletdriver file outside of that folder and onto the parent 'Tablet' folder

Delete the Wacomtabletdriver folder and double click the Wacomtabletdriver file to start the driver

Go back to System Preferences > Wacom Tablet & check if the "Problem with tablet driver" error has disappeared.  Close the Preferences pane.

Plugged in the tablet, opened preferences again and then re-configured my tablet.

I have no clue how to delete a post once it's been posted, so I'll just type something here and take the hit of looking dumb.

This worked for me too. Thought I was going to have to give up my trusty Intros 2, but you saved the day. Thank you SO much!

This fix worked (for me) for 10.10.5 and an Intuos 3 (in the US).

I have an Intuos 2.  I found only the 6.2 driver work.  When installing it, it was blocked.  Have to go to sys pref security & privacy to check the 'Anywhere', so to allow installation.

The following may have been suggested previously. If so I apologize for repeating it.

After trying a variety of methods for getting the latest Intuos touch driver for Yosemite to work, I have found the following short procedure to be successful.

    1. Using the Wacom Tablet Utility backup your preferences, if necessary, and then remove the existing  tablet software.

    2. Go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support and find the folder Tablet.

    3. Delete the Tablet folder (including everything in it) Installing new software does not overide or replace the existing "WacomTabletDriver" file within the folder. That seems to be the root of the problem.

    4. Install the newest driver.

    5. Open the Wacom preference pane. (I don't believe that a Restart is required.)

    Voilà

At this point according to a Wacom video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_j10xhIi5c , you should be able to restore your preferences readily. Why Techman Joe, the narrator on the video,  didn't know to throw away the Tablet folder - or at least its contents - is a mystery.
