Mar 11, 2015 4:22 PM in response to NomadColossusby shinsundo,This is utter horse crap. I just updated to 10.10.2 to see if it would bring my second monitor back running off NVIDIA GTX 680 aaaaaaaand NO. Still no joy at all. Both monitors made by APPLE and given that they are large display port monitors, I'm not sure how to even connect and use adapters to get it to behave again. This is seriously BS. What's up Apple????????

Jun 15, 2015 6:12 AM in response to zaonamiddiaby rfguy1,I too inherited this external monitor feature since upgrading. What a shame. From exploding batteries, faulty graphic cards (MacBookPro's) to this - 2nd Monitor issues. really?. My guess is you couldn't find a way to make extra money from us using a generic external monitor so why bother encouraging us to do it. Well, in my book 3 strikes your out. After 20 + years I have had it. I bought an Android phone and Samsung tablet because I can add memory @ a reasonable cost, replace my own battery is needed and I don't need ANY special cables. Did I mention combined they all cost less then the price of 1 iPhone 6? Oh, with the additional savings I'll be shopping for a PC. It REALLY is a sad sad outcome to a once great organization. Does corporate even read the replies Customer Service sends to us in response to our valid requests for assistance? Oh, BTW, my iPhone 5S is making a decent MP3 Player as long as I keep it plugged in and disconnected from iCloud because the battery is dying and I don't want Apple wiping my original music library clean like you did to so many others.

Jul 20, 2015 10:45 AM in response to altorontoby Ethan Duckworth,I tried Altoronto's solution but it didn't work for me.
For the record I have a MacBook Pro, Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt -> DVI adaptor and a Samsung monitor.
I've tried: deleting *windowserver* plists in all Preferences folders, I've tried disabling kext restrictions, I've tried resetting NVRAM, I've tried deleting private/var/db/displaypolicyd, I've tried unplugging and replugging the monitor, etc.
Nothing has worked.

Jul 20, 2015 12:00 PM in response to Ethan Duckworthby shinsundo,we got ours working again by using the HDMI output of the card instead of mini dvi and buying an HDMI > DVI-I cable to connect to monitor. Hope this helps someone...

Jul 24, 2015 7:15 AM in response to Hessel78by Ethan Duckworth,I finally got it working. Based on a vaguely related discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6623697 I tried the following steps
Apparently, I needed to reset the SMC before resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. Here are the steps that I did, who knows how many matter
(1) Disconnect External Monitor.(2) Restart in Safe Mode
(3) In Safe Mode, repair permissions.
(4) Shut Down, reset SMC
(5) Once computer boots from SMC reset, restart again and reset
PRAM/NVRAM.
So far (72 hours) it's worked pretty well.
