Q: Copying iTunes playlists from white MacBook to MacBookAir
White MacBook has dying harddrive. Music library is on external drive. How do I move the playlists to a newer MacBookAir since they do not have any common FW connectors (FW400 vs Thunderbolt)? If I do not have the dongle to connect an FW cable to a Thunderbolt, can I just copy the file(s) using a USB thumb drive?
If so, what file(s) are the playlists? Is it the XML file?
Any help out there?
Thanks
Terry

Howdy papiamento,
It's the iTunes Library.itl file that contains the relevant information (playlists, etc) regarding your iTunes Library. You can, indeed, use an external drive or thumb drive to transfer both the iTunes Library .itl and .xml files to a new computer. The article linked below details the contents of both of these files and their default locations.
