Q: Windows 7 installation freezes at "Completing installation"

Hi.

I removed my Windows partition on my macbook pro 2010, and decided to do the installation all over again.

I use the bootcamp assistant and make a new Windows partition, then I insert my Windows 7cd (for mac) and the installation Begins.

It then continues the installation and restarts the computer twice, until it reaches the the last step of the installaton "Completing installation". Here it continues for about 2 minutes before it freezes completely.

The only thing to do then, is to turn off my macbook, start up in I OS, and start all over again

I really hope someone is able to help me with this issue.

If the XP disc is needed for brining up Windows, the installation has onto completed yet. Can you check Device Manager for any unknown devices?

I had exactly the same issue, but I managed to finish the installation and boot Windows in a different way. Even though the issue has been marked as solved, I would like to share the procedure I followed.

Windows 7 freezing at "Completing installation"

    1. Install Windows 7 from DVD
    2. Make sure Boot Camp drivers USB drive is plugged in at all times
    3. Computer will reboot once during installation
    4. Right after seeing "Completing installation" press SHIFT + F10
    5. Type EXPLORER.EXE in command prompt window and press Enter
    6. Let the installation finish and log into Windows

Up to this point, I would suggest not to install Boot Camp straightaway, as it is likely Windows will stall at the "Welcome" screen after reboot. You would want to install hotfix Windows update from Microsoft first (see link below).

    Windows 7 freezing at start-up

    1. Boot Windows normally
    2. Type your login password if you have one or wait for Welcome message screen
    3. Press the POWER button of your computer then
    4. Wait for your computer to go into Sleep mode
    5. Wake up your computer again and you'll be able to log into Windows
    6. Download and install hotfix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979491

I hope this helps for future reference.
