Q: If my iCloud storage is full of photos, can I still stream new photos to my mac?

So confused.

I have an iPhone 4 and a MacBook Pro.  My iCloud storage is full at 5GB.  When I take a photo on my iPhone, whilst it saves to Camera Roll, the My Photo Stream on my phone stays empty. Is this because my iCloud storage is full?

My Photo Stream is turned on on my phone.  And, I can see previous photos in My Photo Stream in Photos on my mac.

Aren't photos and videos supposed to automatically upload to Photos on my mac?

I have read the FAQ to no avail.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hi barneyhairball,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you and not seeing photos on My Photo Stream that you took with your iPhone camera. My Photo Stream does not use iCloud storage, so this should not be the issue. To begin troubleshooting this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the information located in the attached article below.

Get help using My Photo Stream - Apple Support

I don't see photos from My Photo Stream on my iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV

If you’ve turned on iCloud Photo Library, every photo and video you take will live in iCloud, including ones from your My Photo Stream. If some of your devices don't have iCloud Photo Library enabled, My Photo Stream will upload your recent photos to share with those devices.

If you can't find your My Photo Stream images in the Photos app, follow these steps:

    1. From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi. Make sure that Wi-Fi is on, and that you have an Internet connection.
    2. Go back to Settings and tap iCloud > Photos.
    3. Make sure that My Photo Stream is on. If it’s already on, turn it off and tap Delete. Then, turn on My Photo Stream again.
    4. On the device that took the photo you're looking for, close the Camera app. Nothing uploads to My Photo Stream until you do.
    5. See if your iOS device is below 20% battery power. If it is, My Photo Stream will be disabled temporarily to preserve battery life.

If you're using an Apple TV, it might display only your most recent photos due to its storage capacity.

    Best regards

After days of trying to sort this out, I eventually reset my iPhone.  It worked.  I did nothing else and the problem disappeared.  With hindsight, I guess my iPhone was just not connecting to the cloud, despite My Photo Stream being enabled on all my devices.  It is so easy to reset a phone, that I wish I had considered it sooner.  As long as one does not lose one's stored data, it will never be too much of a problem.  Thanks for your advice anyway.  I always appreciate people using their time to reply.
