My Music > [tap on the sort heading and select Artist]. The provided view will sorted by album, but the for playback they can be shuffled.

Thanks for your reply but I could not get your suggestion to work; it only shuffled the songs within a particular album, not all the songs.  Plus, be able to shuffle the songs is not at all what I want.  What I want is to be able to see a list of all the songs by a particular artist.  I have an old iPod which I use occasionally.  You can search by artist which brings up a list of albums.  At the top of the list of albums is a button that says All Songs which produces an alphabetical list of the songs, which I can then scroll through.  That is the feature I am looking for.  Thanks again for your help.

Just got the shuffle to work.  Not very intuitive.  Still no song list, which, to my way of thinking, should not be too difficult a feature to include. Especially since I have it on a 7 year old iPod. But what do I know?  Again, Thanks.

You can't uncheck it. But doesn't really matter.

To get a song list you need to use the search in the upper right. Type in the name of the artist and you will see several sections come up. Click on Songs and you will see an alphabetized listing of all the artist's songs.

Many thanks, anypats.  The following is for the Apple folks if they actually read these posts.

I never would have considered this option, which really is the problem.  Why not just have a button option for songs when one searches for an artist?  That feature is on my 2008 iPod. Two clicks and you are there.  Now it's click search, type the name (3 to 6 clicks so to speak), and then click on songs.  Gee that was easy.  And really intuitive.  I thought that, among Apple's missions, was to make finding what you want easier.  I guess that is not always the case.  The new music player is much more complicated in general, in my view.  Anyway, I thankful that there are people out there like anypats to help when Apple cannot.
