Why is it that when I press the d key during restart I do not get the apple hardware test?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), iOS 7.0.5

Mac OS X

On startup try the D key.

If no success, try OPTION + D on startup.

An early 2011 MBP came with Snow Leopard installation disks. Use the one with AHT instructions written on it.
