Q: iMac randomly restarts from sleep

iMac 27-inch, Late 2012

processor: 3.4GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 24GB 1600MHz DDR3

graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB

HDD: Fusion Drive (1TB)

Yosemite 10.10.4

Hello,

I've already searched for my problem - my iMac randomly restarts on its own after sleep - but haven't find any viable solution.

The issue:

  • the computer restart on its own from sleep - this happens during daytime or night, no difference in the time of the day;
  • no problems when I shut it down (in that case it doesn't restart on its own);
  • I don't receive any "kernel panic" warning or similar messages - it just restarts
  • I can't recall an event (new app installation or similar) that might have triggered the issue
  • the iMac is connected to the same power source since I bought it (more than 2 years ago) but the problem arose in the last three months or so.

What I've already done:

  • I have reset my SMC a couple of times
  • I have reset my PRAM a couple of times
  • I ran Disk Utility and both the Disk and Permissions are fine
  • I ran Apple Hardware Test and no issues were found
  • I restarted in Safe Mode (in my account, not a guest account)
  • I uninstalled Tuxera (the app for NTFS read-write on external drives)
  • I unplugged all external HDD's (USB and Thunderbolt)
  • in System Preferences I unchecked "Wake for Network access"

but the issue is still there.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

    It happened at 03:44 in the morning, the computer was in my bedroom, I was asleep in the same room and nobody else than me was in that room... As I don't believe in phantoms, something in the machine should have happened.

    Why should it have come out of hibernation?

    I wonder if while it says Power Nap is not enabled, it really is. Try toggling it on then back off.

    Done (first off then on again), rebooting the computer each time, but nothing has changed even after toggling with Power Nap.

    Ah... won't spend anymore time on this nuisance. Just hope to fix it in Fall with a clean install of El Capitan.

    Looking on the internet I found many people with the same problem (maybe non due to the same event - EC. TimeSleeper - but similar) and having the computer waking on its own from sleep. This applies to both desktops and laptops. The point is that the great majority of these people has not found any solution to the issue. I'm just wondering if Apple is aware of it

    Thanks to Barney-15E for his great support. I would have loved to give him the "this solved my question" reply, because his attention has been excellent. Unfortunately I can't do so, but he deserves a huge applause.
