Q: I need a generic printer driver for my Canon MP530 multi-funtion printer, since there is no specific driver available for OS X 10.9.

I have a macbook running OS X 10.9.5  Canon support told me that if I had stayed with OS X 10.8 I would be able to install my printer.  They suggested contacting Apple support and asking for a generic driver to use.  If anyone knows of such a thing, please let me know. I don't want to pay for a rollback to the OS X 10.8 version.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

The MP530 driver for OS X 10.8 should install on 10.9. Have you tried to install this driver but found it won't install?

PAHU, I plugged in the Canon MP530 USB, opened System Preferences, selected Printers/Scanners, pressed the + key which revealed the Canon MP530 in an Add window. The "Use:" indicates "Choose a Driver..." which then displays choices of "Select Software" and "Other".

Immediately below the "Use:' is this statement:  "Software for this printer isn't available from Apple.  Contact the printer's manufacturer for the latest software."  Canon no longer has OSX-compatible software for any of their MP series printers, but substitutes Easy-PhotoPrint EX, which I downloaded and opened in Applications. But it does not appear in the list of available software when Select Software is chosen. Also, Canon's website states this printer does not have a driver.

Any suggestions would be very welcome. ;-)

    Thank you.

I suggest you install the MP530 v10.67 driver. As this is not signed for Yosemite, Gatekeeper may block its installation. To get past Gatekeeper, right-click on the driver installer and select Open from the pop-up menu that appears. Now you will get an option to install the driver. Once the driver has installed, open Printers & Scanners and select to add. Then in the Use menu, click on Select Software and the MP530 should be in the Printer Software list. Select it and click OK then Add to complete the printer creation.

PAHU, I was able to install version 10.67 of the MP530 driver!  I am so grateful to you for suggesting it, because I had become convinced I would not be able to use my printer with my MacBook Air. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
