Q: I can't video conference or screen share with Messages anymore!
I've been using iChat, and now Messages, to video chat for years with other AIM and GoogleTalk users. Something has happened recently and video conferencing and screen sharing has stopped working. Facetime works for video conferencing, but it can't do multi-user video conferences and it doesn't support screen sharing, which I use for remote tech support with family members. Trying to use Messages to video conference or screen share, with the same people and same accounts as always, just results in an error dialog asking if I want to report the problem to Apple.
I've tried using different accounts and tried lowering the bandwidth requirements but neither solved the problem. I convinced all of my family to get Macs because I could help with with issues using the screen sharing feature of iChat/Messages, and now I feel like this is another case of "It just doesn't work" like it used to (a la iPhoto vs.Photos, setting Contact photos with drag and drop, apps bought from vendors treated differently than same app on App Store, pie-chart of memory usage in Activity Monitor, etc, etc.)
I'm using AIM and Google accounts on Messages 8.0 (4752) on OS X Yosemite 10.10.4. Any help is appreciated before I throw in the towel and switch everything over to Google Hangouts.
