Jul 31, 2015 9:02 PM in response to carbonmby Shaun1z,what you could do is check for errors by
1. connect power cord to mac shut down the computer then turn it on and immediately press D on keyboard
this will do a whole check for errors takes 2 minutes and if any problems found it will trouble shoot.

Thanks. I have used the Activity Monitor ever since I noticed my fan to try to diagnose my problem, and can not find anything out of the ordinary. The article online does not give much guidance on acceptable limits, but everything I have observed seems normal. The only task that appears different than the others is kernel_task, but most of what I have ready online considers this to be normal. I appreciate any more thoughts you have on this.

From my problem you will see that I have tried this repeatedly. Even trying it again now, the Diagnostic function on my Mac never runs to completion. Not even letting it run overnight will bring me a diagnosis. I am always forced to shut it down to get my computer back and learn nothing in the process. If you know how to resolve this this might help me set my fan issue out. Thanks.

Even with no applications running this same problem exists. Using the Activity Monitor (which admitadly is an application), I can see what the draw is on my resources and it should be very minimal.Yet, my fan still runs wild. There are no rogue apps running from what I can see either which could be an indication of a problem. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have tried resetting the SMC twice now, with limited success. Initially it seemed like it had worked, but both times within a few minutes the fan is back doing the same thing. Even now, after only an hour of use, my battery has drained from 100% down to 45% with the fan running continuously hot. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Aug 27, 2015 6:12 AM in response to carbonmby CT,At this point I would take it in for testing/service. It is possible that a hardware fault is in play.
