This app lets you use your iPhone to control tv.
It does and it does it over wifi, so you need the original remote to set up the Apple TV to connect to the network.

Aug 1, 2015 6:36 PM in response to Winston Churchillby Jorgem21,I am aware of the app. I am also aware that it requires an internet connection. I managed to solve that by connecting my Apple TV to an ethernet cable. However, the problem is that the app requires the Apple TV to have Home Sharing enabled, which can only be done with a remote. I may as well just buy a new one.

Aug 2, 2015 9:52 AM in response to UGADogby Jorgem21,This is actually a good idea. When you restore your Apple TV and start the setup process, it asks you if you want to pair any bluetooth keyboards. The problem is that I don't have any bluetooth keyboards. But i figured I'm gonna have to buy something to get it done. So I'd rather just buy the remote.
