Q: Photos crashing after Yosemite 10.10.4 update

After installing the Yosemite 10.10.4 update, I still have problems with Photos crashing. Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

Photos will open, showing the albums tab, then after a minute or 2, it crashes. If I try to click on any other functions, it crashes sooner.

    arianaaaxo,

Did you have the problem before the 10.10.4 OS update? I have had the problem since iPhoto changed to Photos.

What version of iPhoto do you have?  It must be iPhoto 9.6.1 in order to work with Yosemite.

First as a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

If it doesn't  then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired according to this Apple document: Repair You Library.

So, wait... am I supposed to have both the new Photos AND the old iPhoto apps?? Confused.

My Photos program crashes semi often and did so even before update to 10.10.4.

Old Toad, I am not tech savvy at all so I don't understand your most recent post on this thread. Create a new test library?? huh?

My Photos app has now crashed 4 times this morning. So frustrating when trying to do work!

    Any ideas? Thx!

launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library

Doing the above will give you this window:

    Photos002.jpg

Click on the Create New button and create a new temp library.  I prefer to have it created on the Desktop so I can remember to delete it after the test.

However, since Photos is crashing a lot first try repairing the library according to this Apple document: Repair Your Library.

I loaded a different library and Photos worked. I tried repairing my "damaged" Photos library, and that failed. It crashes after the repair session.

How do I get my years and years of photos into the new app?

I am able to open it in iPhoto, which is still installed, but would prefer to move forward with the OS.

Should I run Disk Utility and repair all permissions?

    Thanks.

Now after repairing the library 3 times, it finally worked.

    THANKS!!!!!
