Q: My Mac book pro has a blank white screen with an occasional flashing folder. How can I fix this.

At startup of Macbook pro, a white screen appears with no apple logo. Soon a flashing folder will appear.

I had this problem about a year ago. What's going on is the sata cable connecting the hard drive to the mother board is having problems. What I ended up doing was buying a new one from Amazon. Eventually I went ahead and installed an SSD too. I would definitely try Niel's suggestion first, but if you keep having problems you may just want to get a new cable. Hope everything works!

    Hi Guitargenuis100,

The same problem also happens with me. But, I fix it and you can also solve this problem by following the below mentioned steps:-

    1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

    2. Now, click on the Startup disk icon in the system preference window.

    3. Here, click on the icon of volume which you generally use to startup your computer.

    4. Finally, close the System preferences Window.

Now, your Mac should start up without the flashing question mark.

Hope, the above mentioned steps will solve your problem.
