Q: My Retina Display has stain damage, HELP!!!

photo.JPG

I dont know how it happened, but somehow my retina display got some weird clear-ish stain damage that is very noticable on a black background. I have tried to clean it with water and a micro fiber cloth like usual, but i think this is not something on top of the screen as much as it is something has like eaten away a part of the screen... I need help! what do i do to solve this aside from replacing the screen... if water and microfiber arent working, what else can i use? I am worried that windex or alcohol will excacerbae the problem, as i suspect it might have been alcohol that caused the problem in the first place, but im not sure... any insight, please? this is driving me nuts

Take it to your local Apple Store. We cannot help from here.

    Cheers

I have this same issue on a 2014 Macbook Pro Retina. Before I bought this MBP I had a 2011 MBP with the video issue. I brought it in repeatedly to the Apple Store and they continuously told me there was no problem. I finally sold it last year (at a big loss due to the random crashes caused by the video issue) and a few months later Apple finally acknowledged the issue and started a repair program. Hopefully it won't take over three years for Apple to acknowledge and fix this screen issue which is clearly a manufacturers defect.

I have the same issue. I've had the screen replaced in Sep 2014 and it's happened to the new screen too!

    Hi, from Ukraine,

I have found myself in a rather difficult position here - i do a lot of photo editing and always considered macbook pro as an investment into my work, paying more the $2500 for a computer to local authorised retailer.

And now in 1,5 year i have these on my screen, though i have been very very carefull using it...

So what am i supposed to do now? There is no even an official Apple store in Ukraine, there are only authorised retailers and service centers. All they tell me i have to pay $600-$800 for the screen replacement. An with no guarantee it will not happen to me again in few months!???

Apple's screen supplier clearly f**up here, and this is becoming a major problem... I have always seen this brand as one worth investing money into, and now if this question is not going to be solved, and i will get stuck with a $2500 computer with a manufacturing problem that is not worth even repairing... i'm  really frustrated now

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) bought on 2013.10.03, problem appeared on 2015.08.03.

    @Apple:

This is not a cosmetic damage, the contrast within the affected area drops by half!

My screen had this problem too, worse than most photographed here.  I used window cleaner (specifically AJAX).  First I used a soft cloth, which didn't do much.  Then I applied it with a dish sponge using the rough (green side) and scrubbed lightly.  Worked amazing, looks as good as new (or even better!)

Around one week before I bought a new Macbook Air with 11“ in the highest configuration, so I want to sell me Macbook Pro 13“ Retina (Late 2012), which i ordered online on 2013/04. Since I used a external screen and an external keyboard I mostly didn´t look on the screen of the macbook but unfortunately I found the big stains on my screen. At first I thought I used a display protection, but it was´t that case.

Add me to the list with this issue on my 13" late 2013 MBP with retina. I've never used anything to clean the screen other than the supplied cloth. I had noticed the issue several months back initially in the center of the screen where it appeared the screen made contact with the keys, but now it's spread across the entire screen making it very difficult to use, particularly outdoors.

I went by the genius bar today, quoted $500 CDN to replace the screen. I don't think I have a choice but to move ahead with the replacement and hope it doesn't happen again.

Well, if you read back, there are several people who did that and now they are facing the need for a 2nd screen replacement (if I am not mistaken there are even 3rd ones, but I don't remember for sure).

If I were you I'd wait to see where all this goes.

I have the exact same issue, but they said that due to it not affecting the functionality of the device, it is not covered by warranty ??? Where did you take your device?
