Q: Multiple Call Glitch on Verizon Iphone

Coming from every version of the iphone since it's inception, switching over to Verizon iPhone has been great except for 1 major glitch I discovered. While I was in a current call, I received another call and was able to hold & answer just like on the AT&T iPhone. The screen said "multiple calls" and I got an option to "swap" between the 2 active calls, however the "merge" option was grayed out (unavailable) so i couldn't conference the two active calls. When i hung up with one of the calls, i did not get the option to go back to the other call -- when i ended the one call, it ended both calls. i called one of the Apple stores and they were baffled. i tried a test on my wife's Verizon iPhone as well, and the same thing happened.

They're telling me even if the carrier/providers are the same different areas could possibly have a difference in services. Depending on how advanced the network is updated in certain areas of the Cities and States....

Complete bull.  I recently switched to Verizon after being an iPhone user on AT&T since 2007.  Managing multiple calls on AT&T works beautifully across the country regardless of the other party's carrier.  You can select which call to swap, merge, and drop at all times.

On Verizon my iPhones (4s and 5) only display "Multiple Calls" not the individual contact/number like AT&T.  You can't choose to disconnect an individual call.  Merging calls seems to depend on if you initiated or received the calls.  I've tested conferencing in several areas with all Verizon cellphones, Verizon landlines, and AT&T cell.  Verizon needs to fix this feature.

I regret the switch because call quality was better on AT&T too.  I occasionally notice call degradation and compression artifacts with Verizon.  Verizon's cons definitely outweigh the pros for iPhone users.

I am having the same problem. This feature worked fine when I first got the iPhone 5 in early November but is no longer working once they pushed out several updates. This is such a pain. This is a basic smartphone function. This happens whether both callers are on Verizon network or not and whether both calls are incoming or whether one was an outgoing call.

Just had the pleassure too. It happned several times with my Verion IPhone5. I am leaving a voice mail to the person, he/she meanwhile calls and I get options: "Ignore" or "Hold + Answer" (something like this). Obviously, don't want to "ignore", choose the 2nd and get "Multiple calls" with the only option "END CALL". Niiiice!!!

I just moments ago got back from an Apple store where I got an anwser - of sorts. We did multiple tests on five different phones and on some phones it worked, some it didn't. But it looks like the answer is that at least whith Verizon it is a matter of which plan you have. I just signed up in January of 2013 and I have all the problems mentioned here. But the Apple Store iPhones are on a much older plan and none of problems exist on those phones. By the way, my phone and the Apple Store test phones are all iPhone 4 - not 4s or 5. The guy who was helping me has an old plan on an iPhone 5 and he is good to go but the girl who was in on the troubleshooting has a newer plan with a 5 and also has the problems. I can't speak towards any other carriers one way or another. It bites!

Similar problem.  Trying it get Wells Fargo on the line WITH Apple to discuss a pending transaction.

I can make the second call - I can merge the 2 calls - but once there is an issue (Apple prompt leads me to a hang-up or a punk Apple representative named Mark hangs up during the call) I can't continue with the original call and REPEAT the process of adding a second call because the ADD CALL button on my Verizon IPhone 4s is greyed out and no longer available.

So the situation to recreate is:

    1) make a call

    2) add a call

    3) merge calls

    4) lose 2nd call (or have Apple Hang-up on you)

    5) attempt to add a call for a second time <--------------  ISSUE

From reading the previous comments - it seems that Apple is blaming the Verizon Carrier - yet it is my Apple Phone that is preventing me from adding the call via a button that is no longer available in my above sequence.

Pass the buck - point fingers - that's par for this course. :/

I used to have similar problems with my Verizon iPhones including the latest version 6 running the latest iOS 8.1.3.  Once I enabled VoLTE in settings / cellular / enable LTE - voice & data, it works great.  All the three-way call issues gone!

After answering the second call, when one wants to end the 2nd call with no loss of functionality on call No. 1, one must hit the red disconnect button to close the 2nd call - not the swap button.

After about 3 seconds, the 1st call rings you back with full functionality.

The only way to conference in call 1 and 2 is just to tell caller 2 to hang up, then hit the red disconnect button, waiting to be reconnected to caller No. 1, then hitting the + sign and then the merge sign when caller 2 answers.
