May 7, 2015 6:30 AM in response to Mr.CrossFishby Fly Fishing,I am having the same issue. Just yesterday, I moved over from iPhoto to Photos.app. I was able to drag videos directly from iPhoto to iMovie, however, the same functionality doesn't seem to exist with Photos.app.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

May 7, 2015 10:43 AM in response to Fly Fishingby Mr.CrossFish,It's goofy, but I did a drag/drop to my desktop from Photos and then dropped that file on iMovie and it worked. Must have been a developer oversight to not allow drag/drop (which Apple is famous for) from the Photos.app/iMovie. Maybe I'm thick, but other editing software I've used doesn't duplicate the original video file, just indexes it and normalizes the audio and saves the metadata for your eventual render to a final output. Hope the guys/gals working on the software can help us out here. Thanks!

May 9, 2015 7:10 AM in response to Mr.CrossFishby jturquette,Same problem here as well. So In the new photos app, you can export the file. So I did. I placed the file on the desktop. Then I dragged the .mov file to iMovie, to the event library pane. What a Pain!! I can guess why it was done this way, but I will keep my opinion to myself.

Aug 5, 2015 7:25 AM in response to Mr.CrossFishby jaykureshi,★HelpfulThere is a simple way to do this, in iMovie right column under Libraries select photos library, it will open your photos app library, now you can select any of the album, event, video, Tim-lapse, when you will select any pic or video a + sign will appear in lower middle place, or you can simply drag and drop videos to your desired project.

Mar 25, 2016 9:02 AM in response to jaykureshiby FOTE_FriendOfTheEarth,I still see iPhoto Library in the Libraries.
This version of iMovie is probably the most user un-friendly piece of software on this planet.

Mar 25, 2016 9:52 AM in response to Old Toadby FOTE_FriendOfTheEarth,I was using iMovie 10.0.5. I just updated it and it is showing Photos Library. Interesting thing is that in the update notes it does not say anything about this piece.
I would be very interested in meeting the designers of iMovie. I would just like to know what planet they come from.

Apr 11, 2016 1:00 PM in response to jaykureshiby mbpellie,Maybe it's because my Photos library is huge, but I've been waiting 10 minutes in Imovie, after highlighting "Photos Library" and nothing is happening. Anything I am missing that I need to do?
