Q: i conect microphone but not able to record. where is the settings?

i had connected an external microphone to the mic port. but still sound is recording from the internal mic, not the external one.

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

A Mac Pro doesn't have an internal mic, so it's not clear what you mean. Make sure the right input device is selected in the Sound preference pane.

What specific mic? The audio-in port on a Mac Pro silver tower requires a mic that outputs line-level signal. See:
