Q: Can't connect to Skype for Business (Lync) or web-based Office 365 using Airport Extreme wifi. All other sites work.

I'm transitioning to working from home a couple of days per week, and I'm having trouble connected to Skype for Business from my home wifi. I've never had in issues in the past (when it was Lync), but here are the specifics:

  • I can connect to Office 365 online and Skype for Business if I plug directly into my modem using an ethernet cable. I can also connect using any other wifi network, my iPhone as a hotspot, etc.
  • I did a hard reset on my Airport Extreme yesterday and I was able to connect. Overnight, however, the connection was lost and now it's not working.
  • I can't log into Office 365 from my Macs, either, from this wifi network.
  • I'm not having issues with any other website/app/service.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What modem router do you have?

What setup do you have in the Extreme, bridge or router??

Assuming setup is correct remember skype will need to open incoming ports which the wrong setup of routers will not allow..

Apple uses NAT-PMP and the rest of the world uses UPNP .. only a handful of routers use both.. apple uses only their system.. which is a problem.

Try manually opening the ports required by skype.. which maybe more complex because skype can manipulate port requirements.

It needs a huge number of ports opened.. frankly beyond the pale.. I would go back to using a real world router that supports 100% upnp.
