Q: Does iTunes 12.2.1 not support Windows Vista anymore? (I run 64bit Vista Home Professional with SP2 on one of my computers, and iTunes 12.2.1 won't install)
Does iTunes 12.2.1 not support Windows Vista anymore? And can I continue to use my current version (12.1.2.27) with future iOS versions?
I run 64bit Vista Home Professional with SP2 on one of my computers, and iTunes 12.2.1 won't install.
The current version installed, iTunes 12.1.2.27 64 bit, runs fine. When checking for updates, it says an update (iTunes 12.2.1) is available, and proposed to download the update. If I confirm, this downloads the install file for 12.2.1 (iTunes6464setup.exe), but starting that exits with the message "This version of iTunes requires the 64bit version of Windows 7, or later".
Am I doing something wrong, or has Apple dropped support for iTunes now not only regarding XP, but also Vista? I understand the download page of Apple/iTunes mentions Windows 7 as minimum requirement, but then why would my installed iTunes version (on Vista) propose to install the update for 12.2.1?

The last version to support Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista is iTunes 12.1.2.27.
See the older versions section of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for direct links if needed.
Review the rest of the tip for removal and reinstallation advice and other resources.
You may as well disable Apple Software Update from checking for updates automatically, or remove it altogether.
I don't know why Apple's download pages or ASU cannot offer the last version to support your platform, but that is the way it is.
